There are already around 300 million guns in existence that do not have microstamping technology, so the impact of new weapons with it would be trivial. Also, most guns used in crimes are not used by their original owner... they are stolen or have been resold so many times you could not trace them.
That and some firing pins are easy as hell to fabricate.
I love the NSA. It's like having a secret fan-base you will never see, but they're there, watching everything you write and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that I may be some person's only form of unconstitutional entertainment one night.

I don't know a single High Power Rifle competitor or IPSC pistol shooter who doesn't have a spare firing pin in their kit. Now when I was a world class shotgun competitor I didn't carry spare pins. I had a spare shotgun and at the world championships or the US National championships there was always an armorer or gunsmith who was at the venue who could fix the firing pins on my K-80s if they broke (100,000 shells never broke one though)

Gun laws really should not be introduced by people who have barely any knowledge of actual guns.

What good would microstamping do regarding a criminal who was given a gun? Do you think despite the drug dealing, drive bys, and other criminal activity that gang member is going to register his firearm?

I have a feeling that the people trying to write these idiotic laws do have actual knowledge of guns. The point of this law is to make it more costly to purchase and or produce firearms, it is has nothing to do with stopping crime.

I think that the person who introduced this law is genuinely interested in making it easier to solve crimes and make people safer. He just has no idea what he is doing. As an avid supporter of the Second Amendment, I know the value of it, but many people look at violent crime and they figure this would not happen if only the criminal did not have a gun or that regulation is the answer to a lot of problems. I know that is simplistic and used to justify a lot of stupid rules, but I do not see any reason to question their motives.

Umm.. I think your average gangster is more used to subverting societies safe falls more so than your average non-gangster. They pass info like this around.

Doesn't New York have a firearms manufacture that sells firearms outside of NewYork?

Re: Gun microstamping could close American factories

We have the highest unemployment rate in the USA and we adore guns here. The biggest gun show in the world is held here and shooting ranges are a popular destination.

New York and California have these eerie kind of death wishes. Anything to make anything more complicated. So, yeah, we WANT those jobs.

I understand the "slippery slope": issue some other posters have here and I'm sympathetic. I'll just point out that any lawmaker can propose any law. There are gazillions of new laws proposed every 5 minutes. The job title of a politician is a LAWMAKER. Hopefully, the wacky proposals don't go anywhere.

I am pretty sure they been told that firing pins can be easily changed out,micro-stamping wears out after firing so many rounds and that anyone with a file can remove the micro-stamping.

The thing you have to remember about anti-2nd amendment loons is that they work in baby steps. They know damn well that criminals do not register firearms, apply for firearm licenses, or any abide by any other idiotic anti-2nd amendment law.
