'Zombie Economy' May Give Markets a Scare in October - US Business News Blog - CNBC

The outcome of the election and the resulting handling of the so-called “fiscal cliff” are seen as keys to the performance of markets in the fourth quarter, and to the economic outlook.

Fiscal cliff is used to describe the double whammy to the economy that could come from the dual expiration of Bush-era tax cuts and automatic spending cuts Jan. 1, if the lame duck Congress does not act. The outcome on taxes and spending is expected to be different, depending on who wins the White House and Senate in November.

It's not clear how much if any of this voters pay attention to.

They don't because they don't understand it IMO.

They're all ok with a pyrrhic victory. "Let's not do anything, we'll make the OTHER team make the hard decisions, and we'll just sit back and watch them implode." Meanwhile, we're still at over 8% unemployment. Fantastic.

The average american doesn't have the money to invest in the stock market. Even if they have a 401k, they most likely don't understand how it works. If you were to rewrite these articles translating terms into iphones, ipads, big screen tv's, cars, shoes (any hot product for that matter), then people might take an interest.

Well this is disappointing, I saw the word zombie and got all excited but then realized this post has nothing to do with zombies. So sad.

I tried reading the article posted, economics is not really my thing so it's usually a bit over my head and is sort of like trying to understand another language, or rap music (I just don't get it). What I took away from it was that the US is not doing so well and wall street would be better off with Romney as president. ummm, anyone mind filling in the blanks?

The average American by virtue of having a 401K does invest in the stock market. That being said 401K plans are not for the faint of heart. I took a hard look at one of the categories and it was made of so many diverse investments (including junk bonds!) that keeping track was almost impossible.
