Dr Pepper Evolution Ad Creates Controversy on Facebook

It is incredibly silly for people to get offended by this ad, in my opinion. However, as a national brand, it's not really wise to choose an advertising scheme that could be considered controversial or offensive by some so you don't end up potentially losing some of your target demographic.

Who would have thought the Christiban would go crazy over it?

There are few things as good in this world as DP and Mexican food!
It makes me hungry just thinking about.

Sorry, I'm conservative (mostly) and Christian and I'm still going to drink Dr. Pepper. The only thing mentioned here I would be willing to boycott is facebook (useless piece of trash, hope you like being data objects for sale to the highest bidder).

I really wouldn't be surprised one bit if it was a few of the Dr Pepper marketing guys who were the ones who initially put the protests on FB to begin with. It's gotten people talking about the product.

Am I the only one who hates Doctor Pepper anyway?

no!

No!

NO!

Say it isn't so!

How - how COULD you!

How could you say such a mean and horrible thing to me!

You were my best friend . . .

. . . and now . . . well now damnit . . . damnit now I need tissues!

My comment was not meant to arouse

Edit: Don't think I thought this one through all the way but whatever we'll run with it.

I can't tempt you to like it, either - no matter what I do.

I think I'll manage - I've cried myself out and now I think I'll be ok. It'll just take me some . . . you know . . . time.

Afterall - it's not me - it's you, you asshole

:D :rofl

I know I'm not the only one, but I just don't see where belief in God and acceptance of the theory of evolution are mutually exclusive.

I think it has something to do with the fact that the Bible says that God created the world in six days, six thousand years ago. That's somewhat incompatible with a scientific theory that says it took billions and billions of years for us to arrive here.

Those people who are inclined to take the Bible as The Ultimate Book Of Everything have an embarrassing tendency to try to apply it to everything, including science. And of course that creates a lot of conflict, and the True Believers end up wrong and in an uncomfortable place because science usually wins. They're tired of losing and want to fight back against anything that threatens the supremacy of their religious views.

Seems pretty simple to me.

It's a weird world we live in when a soda pop advertisement becomes a political battleground.

I applaud anyone who stands up for their beliefs in lawful and peaceful way such as boycotting. All these comments about people who are offended by evolution being from the dark ages are nonsense. This idea that everybody has to think a certain way is what is from the dark ages.

Personally, I was already boycotting Dr Pepper because it tastes like ****.

Aw come on! Wouldn't you like to be a Pepper too?

LOL - someone needs to do a creation-theory Dr Pepper add ot balance it out and sooth the masses.

Oh - that someone will be mua!

Don't call creationism a theory, it's offensive to science!

I lawfully and peacefully stand up for my belief that religious beliefs are a bunch of illogical nonsense by boycotting religious institutions.

Do you applaud me for my stand as well?

Another way I lawfully and peacefully stand up for my belief that creationism is an outdated, irrational belief straight out of the dark ages is lawfuly and peacefully stating, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that I believe creationism is an outdated, irrational belief straight out of the dark ages.

Isn't it hilarious when someone contradicts himself in the very next sentence?

I wouldn't know, since I haven't contradicted myself. Anybody is free to believe anything they want. But this idea that you are espousing, that people must believe like you or they are wrong and bad, that kind of thinking SHOULD have gone out with the dark ages. You disappoint me by demonstrating that it hasn't.

That's the most asinine statement ever. The very basis for this SITE is that there are correct and incorrect (right and wrong) opinions, approaches, ideologies, methodologies, etc.

Is it right or wrong to stab a random person walking to their car in a parking lot?
Is it right or wrong to steal money from your employer?
Is it right or wrong to piss on the American flag (I'm so ready to make a play on this one, so tread carefully)?

If I believe it is wrong to starve animals to death, and somebody else supports starving animals to death, there's nothing wrong with me believing they're wrong or even that they're bad for espousing such beliefs.

Nonsense. You contradicted yourself when instead of applauding people for standing up for their beliefs lawfully and peacefully, you chastised them for doing so.

But this idea that you are espousing, that people must believe like you or they are wrong and bad...

Don't be stupid on top of oblivious, Guy. I never espoused anything like that at all.

I wholeheartedly support everyone's right to believe any old retarded and irrational thing that they want.

Simmer down and have a Dr Pepper! :drink

People are free to believe what they want.

OTOH, I think that bible literalists are neither the most sophisticated nor the most educated nor the deepest religious thinkers on the planet.
Belief in mythology and rejection of reality indicates to me that they aren't the bightest bulbs in the box.

But they are free to believe.
