Google Has Had Enough: Files Lawsuit To Ban Multiple Apple Products - AndroidPIT

Google and Motorola are claiming patent infringement for non-standard essential patents. To put it simply, Google-rola has filed a case for a patent that courts cannot legally force companies to license, meaning that if they win this case, Apple could be forced to completely stop using the technology in their devices.

We don’t have confirmation on exactly which patent (reportedly "wifi related") is in question here, but we do know that Motorola attempted to reach licensing agreements with Apple (since 2010), which Apple apparently refused. Motorola stated that:

“We would like to settle these patent matters, but Apple’s unwillingness to work out a license leaves us little choice but to defend ourselves and our engineers’ innovations”.

This might not seem like political news, but I can't help but notice how liberal Google and Apple are in their marketing campaigns when it comes to freedom of information. It's their business models after all, so you'd expect them to spoil the public. They don't care how stupid people are when it comes to STEM principles as long as they can make a buck, sabotaging the next generation of engineers just so a few can make it big. They thrive on having a diverse labor supply as well from all over the world.

I guess some might qualify them as Rockefeller Republican, but it's the same deal. Either way, it's nice seeing them butt heads. I hope this lawsuit drains as much of both company's treasuries as possible.

No, progressives are not socialists.

All Motorola has to do is stop selling Apple computer chips, and they'd be **** out of luck.

All I know is that I hate Apple as a business. I like some of its products, but I cannot stand its attitude.

This is the best news I have heard in a long time.

It would be nice to give Apple a piece of its own medicine. This patent stuff is out of control.

Apple stopped using Motorola processors some years ago. The current Macintosh line uses the same Intel chips as high-end PC-type machines.
Their iPhones use Motorola, but Texas Instruments has a huge contract coming up for them. They will likely get it if it is not already signed under the table.

And even the products I like aren't worth purchasing if it means that disingenuous POS corporation will make a profit off it, IMO.

I have friends who always counter my "Apple is ethically corrupt" argument with, "But they fix my stuff so well when it breaks!"...as if a nice repair department makes up for slave labor, theft of service, and other abhorrent practices.

Nope... they use... Samsung.

Apple A5 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Apple A5 and A5X are systems-on-a-chip (SoCs) designed by Apple Inc. and fabricated by Samsung[3][4][5] to replace the Apple A4.[2][6][7][8]

I avoid Apple products as much as possible precisely because I don't care for their attitude and their practices. I especially don't like that buying their product means that I'm "sucked in" to their system and have virtually no options outside what they want me to use.

I have one of these and its better than an Ipod in my book Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0

I am not impressed with their laptops and phones either.

Wait....so Apple and Google are socialist now?

Don't fool yourself.

Google is a business. And all businesses want profits. As much as they can, however they can.

No matter how what political leans they may market themselves as. Which is only marketing.

How ironic.

Its even more than that... the iPad and iPhone have 50 to 75% Samsung products in them. The new iPad is basically almost all made by Samsung. Now Apple are trying to get away from Samsung on the iPhone 5, so they have turned to either LG or Sharp for the screen, which could be seen as a downgrade. The chip however should still be Samsung, unless they found another company that has the capacity to push out that many chips... and there are not that many out there.

Good for Google. Either way you look at it, I think it's a smart move on their part. Either Apple is just doing what any conscientious company would and trying to protect their (perfectly valid) intellectual property, or they're greedy sleazeballs trying to beat the competition with lawsuits since they can't do it in a fair market. Either way, it makes sense for Google to respond this way. As vague as some of those patents are, I find it impossible to believe that Apple hasn't infringed on some owned by other companies.

Well Apple is seen more and more like the sleazeballs trying to beat the competition with lawsuits. The only place Apple has actually won a case of any substance is in the US, and that was solely due to it was a jury trial. In almost every other case that has finished, Apple has lost when it has been an expert judge. And when Apple has won, then the victory was short lived to say the least. On all the "it looks like an iPhone and iPad" lawsuits... Apple has lost and had its patents revoked. Hell in the UK Apple has (pending appeal) to take out full page ads in national newspapers and on tv apologizing to Samsung..

And with the amount of defeats Apple has been getting on "look" around the world, then it is wise for Google to start going in for the kill shot to shut up Apple and stop this idiotic patent war... because like it or not, Apple is a minor patent holder and Google, Samsung, Sony and so on.. can if they wanted kill of Apple quite fast.

Also if you look at who Apple sues.. the over all plan starts to become clear. First Apple started suing HTC, because HTC had a popular phone. Then it was Samsung. But the phones that have looked and still look most like an iPhone are those from LG, who Apple have not touched... because LG is a minor player and not a threat. If Apple really believed their "look" is patentable, then they should go after all who break that patent no? But nope, they go after companies that are threatening their sales with popular phones.

It is no wonder that Apple went after Samsung, since the Galaxy S2 was just as good if not better than the iPhone 4S and ever since, pretty much, every major highend phone has been far better than the iPhone 4S on the technology front. At the same time Android has matured a lot and so has its Play Store.

Add to the fact that the iPhone is like 75% of Apple's profits, then protecting that market for them is key for the future... so if they are able to monopolize the market in anyway.. then they will do so and that is exactly what they have been trying to do in the US. A court case with a ban or threat of a ban kept the Galaxy S2 out of the US for almost a half a year, while the rest of the world gobbled up the phone.. selling more than the iPhone in most markets. With the S3, the US actually only had to wait a month, and that was due to the cell providers.... but that did not stop Apple from suing Samsung on the S3.

I personally cant wait for the appeal on the judgement against Samsung.. if it is not thrown out all together.

Eh, I have mostly been unimpressed through the whole thing. From what I understand, this is a rather uniform process throughout most industries, it just isn't all that sexy to report on them. Then computers get everyone anxious and passionate, and the sides are clearly marked. It seems as though Samsung was having a harder time presenting a simple defense, meandering into the complex. At least Samsung is ballsy in using the press's knack for interest in the unusual to give them support (the truck deliveries of the settlement).

This patent office is directly responsible for this nonsense. They have rubber stamping idiots giving patents for the vague obvious crap without even bothering to check for prior art. Its literally impossible to actually make any kind of technology product without violating someones patent. The only thing keeping the peace was the mutually assured destruction since everyone can be sued. Apple was stupid enough to strike first and now Google is going to retaliate.

The constitutional basis for patents is "promoting science and the arts". Multi-billion lawsuits and product injunctions over bull**** patents covering brilliant inventions such as "thin rectangles with rounded corners" and "playing music when using other apps" does not meet that standard.

Google won't file a lawsuit against apple. Here is the thing, Google bought a company called Android that was developing a smartphone os that looked very much like blackberry os. At the time then Google CEO Eric schmidt was on the board of directors. Two of his biggest contributions while there was getting google and apple in sync and at the time they had a "gentlemens agreement" about only making products that complimented each other. Also Apples webkit engine was made open source on the suggestion by Schmidt so besides powering apples safari it powers google chrome and every single android default browser, as well as being the base behind the google chrome os initiatives.

Anyways, apple saw android before it came out looking like blackberry and Schmidt saw iOS. An interesting thing happened. After iPhone was announced about 8 months later android was revealed, the same month schmidt stepped down from apples board. So yeah, would be interesting to see google sue apple.

Can one buy anything these days that doesn't fall under slave labor, theft of service, and other abhorrent practices? I'll bet you that daily, you buy and enjoy products that violate your ethics.

I am surprised Apple won this lawsuit, as patent infringement is one of the hardest cases to prove. How did they manage it?

1. Jury trial.... totally idiotic when it comes to complicated patent cases.
2. Case heard 10 km from Apple HQ
3. Judge use to work for the law firm who represented Apple.

Apple has pretty much lost all cases outside the US when a professional judge and expert in patent law resided over the cases. And even in the few cases where Apple won, the victory was minor and had no real impact on Samsung. Apple got laughed out of the court in Holland and UK when they tried to patent "look" of the iPhone.

And I will raise you Steve Jobs admitting that he stole ideas and designs from his competitors, plus documentation that the iPhone actually was designed and planed by... Sony Corporation and Apple stole the idea from them.

Like it or not, the Apple is ruining its own image and hence future profitability by going on with these law suits. More and more people realise that they are nu-seance lawsuits designed to slow down the competition, a competition that has surpassed Apple in technology and innovation. And Apple is one thing... image.. every sale it has is based on image. Loose that, and Apple is nothing but ordinary.

Don't be shocked if the next big headline in this saga is that the verdict was reversed on appeal.
