About THE worse way to buy healthcare insurance is as an individual.
Who here, who thinks the lower wage food service folks should pay for their healthcare coverage 100%, buys their insurance 100% on their own? They are not part of a company/group plan?
mine is $2,800 a year per person covered with a 5K deductible. No major health issues, but still very expensive if you are on your own to cover the costs.
$2,800 a year per person is a bit much for someone not making CEO wages,(we do alright so while it is a bit pricey we can afford our insurance)
Seems to me if the CEO's of food service businesses don't want to provide healthcare insurance they should drop the BS feel good, team members/associates and call it what it is- low wage exploited expendable labor, or chumps.
My son pays a bit over $400 per month to cover his wife and 3 kids. His insurance is free from his employer, a school district, but to add his family to the school district policy is about $1000 per month.
