The US Congress has approved more new sanctions against Iran in the latest bid to derail the country's nuclear program. It comes after an American federal judge ordered the country - along with Al-Qaeda, Taliban and Hezbollah - to pay 6 billion dollars for supposedly aiding the 9/11 attacks. RT's Gayane Chichakyan explains what might be next after the judgment.

So we want Iran, and Hezballah to pay $6 billion dollars for 9/11? Well its largely symbolic, but that is beyond the point. What proof do we have Iran and Hezbollah have any connection or anything to do with 9/11? Oh yea nothing. The 9/11 Commission report even admits it has nothing to do with the attack. Whats the point of this? Cause more fear against the Iranians?

Iran hated Bin Laden, Al Qaeda and the Taliban. President Khamati condemned 9/11 and even offered support against Afghanistan. The axis of evil speech was completely moronic and destroyed a good opportunity to play of local animosity to our advantage. Its absolutely pathetic that congress is filled with idiots who don't even understand just how much rivalry their is between different groups in the middle east. Lumping groups who routinely commit acts of violence against each onto the same team is insane.

yay, lets antagonize Iran for no reason whatsoever. Half a billion Muslims want to kill all Americans as it is, what's another 100 million.

this is about the last thing that we need to be doing right now.

can we please just be a country again? fix roads, build stuff, that sort of thing?

'You owe us $6B for 9/11. Please pay in oil. Respectfully, USG.'

Wow, that worked out strangely well, right?

Na. We gotta go sticking our nose all over the world, police it, we have a lot of contracts to live up to with the military industrial complex...

Can't build roads and other infrastructure without petroleum guys. It's not like we're intervening just for the heck of it or because it sounds fun. Resources, resources.

That equates that we must start wars for oil?

Yeah. Or don't and accept inevitable economic decline relative to what we've been used to. It's a last ditch effort.

Hmmm..
So we gotta invade countries, kill people, for natural resources. I mean **** diplomacy! Lets just bomb the **** out of people, take all their natural resources and leave. I mean i really dont give a **** about peoples lives or our own soldier lives because oil is more important than human lives.
I mean that to me doesnt seem very "libertarian" of you. Breaking a countries national sovereignty because of a resource beneath the ground.

Yeah diplomacy's cheaper and cleaner, but if it doesn't work, then what?

I know. Sad.

I'm not pro-war, but I do tell it like it is. This **** isn't about terrorism. If we stay peaceful and want to employ our own citizens and all that other fantastic sounding ****, hey great. But it comes with economic consequences that we have to be realistic about. We can't grab foreign oil, then everything gets more expensive for us and we all get a little bit poorer (living standards-wise). Same happens if we force domestic employment and wage inflation. **** gets more expensive and we all feel a bit poorer. Double-edged swords, people. Acknowledge 'em. Embrace 'em.

Ummm... I suspect that the bill for 9/11 is FAR more than just $6 billion. Just saying.

it's my opinion that if the world needs an immune system to prevent metastasis, then that immune system should be composed of multiple types of cells and a multifaceted strategy.

Chump change.

Uncle Sam spends in one day what all 2012 campaigns will cost
As the presidential primaries move forward, it seems like people can't stop talking about the amount of money being spent this campaign season. News reports cover the fundraising horse race in minute detail, while pundits complain about the staggering sums being raised and spent.

All told, it's estimated that $5 billion will be spent this year on political campaigns at the federal, state and local level, up to $1 billion of which may be raised by President Obama's re-election campaign alone.

But if that sounds like a lot of money, consider this: Last year, the federal government spent that much money every day between breakfast and dinner. And next year looks to be no different.

On Feb. 13, Obama unveiled his proposed 2013 budget, which calls for an eye-popping $3.8 trillion in spending.

and this is exactly the reason that we need a domestic non-oil transportation solution. we need to address this issue both publicly and privately as a top-tier priority.

One looney toon activist judge and we all look stupid.

We needed to address it forty years ago. It's the eleventh hour now. Even right now, ponder a way to build and continuously rebuild the nation's roads and bridges with any alternative to oil. CNG is the only hail mary I can think of. Any form of electric is a joke.

You need to move way too much weight around to maintain national road networks using alternative energies.

First off, I'm not doubting you. I'm genuinely interested. Do you have links to a story about President Khamati condemning 9/11 and offering support?

As long as there are oil companies who donate millions to campaigns and have the finest lobbyists and bag-men, you won't see this addressed.

Iran condemns attacks on US
Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has strongly condemned the suicide terrorist attacks in New York and Washington. But he warned against the launching of a war against Afghanistan, saying that if the Americans send in their troops, they would only face more problems.

Ayatollah Khamenei's word has been eagerly awaited here. He has the final say on all important matters. The line he has taken now will determine Iran's policy in the critical days to come. He left no doubt about his strong condemnation of the outrages in New York in Washington. "Mass killings of human beings are catastrophic acts which are condemned" he said "wherever they may happen and whoever the perpetrators and the victims may be".
