Bush simply made a really really stupid mistake. Iran and the U.S. weren't about to become best friends, but there was no good reason not to focus on our mutual enemy. Khatami was a considerably more reasonable sort of guy than Ahmadinejad. We couldn't have solved Israel or all the problems with past history, but it would have been possible to avoid the nuclear situation we now find ourselves in. The axis of evil speech was probably the second dumbest foreign policy mistake of the decade.

    I know. Sad.
Lives are more valuable than a natural resource.

I'm not pro-war, but I do tell it like it is. This **** isn't about terrorism. If we stay peaceful and want to employ our own citizens and all that other fantastic sounding ****, hey great. But it comes with economic consequences that we have to be realistic about. We can't grab foreign oil, then everything gets more expensive for us and we all get a little bit poorer (living standards-wise). Same happens if we force domestic employment and wage inflation. **** gets more expensive and we all feel a bit poorer. Double-edged swords, people. Acknowledge 'em. Embrace 'em.
    No its not.

I mean i really dont give a **** about peoples lives or our own soldier lives because oil is more important than human lives.
I mean that to me doesnt seem very "libertarian" of you. Breaking a countries national sovereignty because of a resource beneath the ground.
We aren't fighting any wars for oil. Relax!

We fight wars for oil, because we don't drill enough of our own oil. There is plenty of oil in the US. We keep finding more. Over just the past few years we have found new oil in North Dakota, Arkansas, and Southern Kansas. We have the oil in Anwr that we aren't drilling. We could do more off shore drilling, though I do think we need to work on our disaster response for off shore oil leaks. Our response to the one in the gulf was pathetic. Everyone kept debating and looking for answers on what to do. Don't you think if we spent several years planning to drill there, that we should have spent some of that time coming up with a plan in case something went wrong? We shouldn't have had to contemplate what to do, we should have already known what to do. Or drilled somewhere else.
