Showdown over Bush tax cuts Wednesday

yeah buy the votes of the middle class and then jack the taxes up

good politics

rather dishonest

Does this mean that the 4 dem senators from NY and Calif declared that their constituents making over $200K or a family over $250K is a "millionaire and billionaire" and needs to be taxed more?

GOod question-I don't tend to listen to those four. especially the millionaire princesses from the Left coast

Schumer at least is smart-he was a top student. Feinswine's multimillionaire husband bought her a senate seat, boxer steers lots of legal work to her husband who is a union consigliere

The Republicans failed to get their extension for everybody through, so now they appear to be seriously considering voting against extending the tax cuts for the middle class in retaliation. They want to teach the American people a lesson about standing up to the rich.

let them fight-that is better than sucking on the public tit which way too many of them have done for the last 70 years

Taking away their jobs and houses in exchange for them allowing you tax cuts has sure shown them hasn't it?

Did the House vote on this or are you talking about the Senate vote? Remember taxation/budget crap must start in the House thus the Senate vote won't pass Constitutional muster...

The House passed the Republican plan a while back- to extend the tax cuts for the rich as well as the middle class. The Senate killed it and passed the version that only extends the tax cuts for the middle class. Boehner says that he'll have a vote on the Senate version next week. If the House passes it, the Senate may need to re-pass it to avoid any constitutional questions, but that's no biggie.

rich dem senators pandering to the masses involves standing up to the rich?

pandering to the masses?

is this what we now call "representing the interests of the majority"?

using the money of the few to buy the votes of the many is pandering

tell me Thunder why are you so eager for other peoples' taxes to go up but not your own

and don't give me the crap about the deficit-its been proven that even tripling taxes on the rich won't do squat

I realize the dems want an environment where most people have to vote dem based on most people are dependent on the government

but that is short sighted

creating lots of addicts assumes the dope will always be available

when the supply dries up, the addicts are going to get real angry at their pushers

What did your children ever do to you that you will pass on to them bills that you refuse to pay yourself?

That is the sort of height of blatant irresponsibility that is inexcusable.

Without significant tax increases how do you intend to pay the deficit? Or don't you?

After you comes the deluge it would seem.

given your well known love affair for the death tax and your desire to expand it to take a cut of every dollar a wealthy person leaves, you talking about heirs and children is pretty funny

and its big government fans like you who fuel the deficit=not me

what is irresponsible are dem pimps who spend more and more and more to buy the votes of their minions and yet demand that a small minority be saddled with paying for all of that crap

Never
ever
even one time
have you ever been able to tell us when the death of one single American was taxed without a large transfer of wealth.

WILL THIS BE THE TIME???????

I guess that is just question one.

Question two is did you cure cancer today.

Question three is did you find out who killed Jimmy Hoffa?

And you continued to limp impotently in telling us how YOU would fix the deficit problem. I was right - you simply don't give a damn unless it involves your own taxes or your own guns. Otherwise its screw everybody else and pass the caviar.

You seemed to have missed dealing with what was posed to you. Most likely that is due to your own inability to do anything but paint yourself deeper into a corner.

Somebody could say truthfully that death starts with life itself. So maybe its a LIFE TAX.

It is the transfer of wealth that is taxed. You know it darn well.

ah another tantrum post with that idiotic large font

and I have never said death is taxed-I call it a death tax (as does MILLIONS OF AMERICANS AND THE IRS) because DEATH IS THE EVENT THAT CAUSES THE TAX To be applied

LIES.

Some 2,400,000 Americans will die this year. A teeny tiny little portion of them will be hit by inheritance or estate taxes. So 99% do not pay this tax and 1% do. You want to define something NOT by the more than 99% but by the less than 1 %.

http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/briefing-book/key-elements/estate/how-many.cfm

Roughly 33,500 estates filed returns in 2009 but fewer than half—only 14,700—of those estates had to pay any estate tax at all.

That is LESS than 1% of Americans who died during the same year.

There is the blatant absurdity and intellectual fraud of your position.

Lies. The IRS calls it the estate tax.

Death is not the event that causes the tax, the transfer of large sums of wealth is the event that triggers the tax. If a person dies, but leaves the money to charity or has no heirs or has a smaller fortune than is required to trigger the estate tax, there is no tax applied. It is only applied if they transfer a large sum of wealth. And, of course, any time somebody transfers a large sum of wealth there are taxes involved. The estate tax is a tax break, not an additional tax. Without the estate tax, the gift tax would hit inheritances over $13k. The estate tax creates an exception for estates up to $5 million in value. It exempts all but the transfers of large fortunes from taxation.

How many people pay the estate tax?

unfairness is not rendered fair by the number of victims.

and its a surcharge on those who pay the most taxes to start with

the death tax might have some merit if it was levied on those who didn't pay much federal taxes when they were alive

you justify it because you aren't affected by it and you believe the government needs more and more and more and more money from others

they call state estate taxes death taxdes

If I transfer large quantities of wealth long before I die that is covered by GIFT TAXES

your party wants the death tax to take 55% of every dollar over 1 million

why should only the rich be hit with this tax? when they already pay so much more federal taxes than others

FAIR or UNFAIR has no meaning on the issue of taxes. It is a fools game to pretend otherwise.

The fact that 99% of Americans who die this year WILL NOT PAY what you call the DEATH TAX shows the utter folly of your use of that stupid term.

Do you know that 100% of professional bakers call a certain dessert a BOSTON CREAM PIE when it is actually a cake and not a pie?

The name put on something DOES NOT DEFINE what it is. It is merely a name.

55%!?!?!?!?!?!? Where are you getting such an absurd figure from?

that means nothing

fairness is not based on how many people are treated badly

the rich should not be subjected to this surcharge just to make the clowns who think the government does not have enough money already feel better

the death tax was designed as social engineering before there was massive federal income taxes

its original purpose-albeit one that has no proper basis in the constitution-doesn't even exist anymore but pandering to the envious has always been a vote getter for the dem party

1. What is your prediction on "If the House passes it"?

2. Since 'the Senate may need to re-pass it to avoid any constitutional questions' you concur that the Senate vote this week was posturing or other?

everyone on this board knows what death tax means-you are about the only one who writes tantrum posts when that term is used

tell us what causes this emotional need to defend that tax and what causes such umbrage when I call it a term you find unflattering?
