The US has spent 15 trillion dollars since LBJ launched the war on poverty in 1964. And the situation has only gotten worse.

He isn't race-baiting. The article is in the Blackvoices section of Huff-po, and written by a black man. I guess if you consider the author a race-baiter, your point may be legitimate.

so if someone owns a 40 year old car that they need to get to their min wage job they dont get your sympthay because they own a car?????

That's not the point. Many of our "poor" are fat, own cell phones, and big screen TV's. This isn't impoverishment.

I love this attitude some of you have, " Im not worried about the high amount of people in poverty because I once saw a fat poor person buying a flatscreen so they must all be liars".
Keep that denial up guys and im sure if you close your eyes for long enough it will be the 1950's again and we can all go bowling and have milkshakes at the local diner and America will be NO1 again....

A 40 Year old car that is still running requires love the impoverished cant afford. You would have had a stronger argument with a mid 90's Civic, and still yes my answer is NO they don't get my sympathy.

Seriously, you want him to prove the poor are fatter, have more cell phones and large-screen tvs than they used to?!

I suspect a serious self-righteously-induced departure from reality.
