    Jail time for this is absurd, I'd say. Fines and community service will suffice.

    It's always a shock when a libertarian like myself comes up against building codes, zoning laws, and neighborhood/condominium associations and the like, but it's well within the rights of the state or city to enforce them, and, like it or not, they serve important functions, like keeping the freeking property values up and reducing traffic congestion and parking problems.
