People say they're moving to Canada because of Obamacare

Yep, America is the ONLY first world country without a national healthcare system. Even with the ACA being upheld, the US remains the only first world country without a national healthcare system.

Should you find the ACA so overbearing that you need to leave the US, I might recommend the cozy coastal country of Somalia. Much to the liking of the Cons, Somalians do not have to worry about an overly intrusive central government. What limited federal government spending they do have is largely spent on the military (the common defense) so do not have much left over to waste on healthcare. Somalia is the libertarians dream; no unnecessary laws, no government intrusion, only the strong and smart prosper.

Haha, that is going to be my response from now on!

I always get a kick out of those people that say they are going to Canada because of Obamacare.

A friend of mine is currently studying abroad in London. Her status on Facebook yesterday was, "Obamacare was upheld?!?! I'm never leaving London."
Many people tried to explain to her that the UK has a program of socialized medicine in place. She didn't understand, no matter how many different ways it was explained.

Some people really worry me.

It is not that surprising, its been over 2 years since it passed and with all the money that has been spent to demonize this plan that is just starting to benefit people. The prolonged delay in implementing the bill was a poison pill added as an "appeasement" to Republicans who pretended at one time to be "interested" in working with the Dems. They have used the delay to try and tear down the bill with at least $250 million spent so far. But never fear now that it has become settled law and more and more of the benefits become clear, peoples minds will change. In 5 years we will not know how we lived without it.

Yes, people are so fed up with "socialized health care" in America, that they're moving. To Canada :lamo

People Who Say They're Moving To Canada Because Of ObamaCare

I remember during the Obama/McCain election, a lot of right wingers were saying how scary Obama was and if he won, they'd move to Canada or else where. The only other places anybody in America is willing to move is going to be Canada and Europe, so what's the point?

It's becoming a fad for citizens to somehow announce that they will leave the country, to go to some other location, due to some recent political happenings. Of course, an overwhelming majority won't because it's all huff and puff (sometimes as idiotic as this one is).

I agree. I'd like to see some of these people actually go through with it. Whenever somebody says it, I just blow it off because so many people say it without meaning it... If I really thought America was going to get really bad, I would get the hell out without caring about making a dramatic exist.

I just wish they would all just shaddap and LEAVE...and make the US a much better place...Id rather have less people that are happy then alot more miserable whiney suckers....:2wave::2wave: Dont let the door hit ya and please dont come back

Too bad all the millions of whiny liberals who threatened/promised to move to Canada after Bush was re-elected didn't follow through on their promises, we wouldn't have had to deal with ObamaCare in the first place. We wouldn't have had to deal with Obama either, for that matter.

I'm not moving to Canada. Though I'm looking long and hard at IRAN, and what it takes to renounce my US Citizenship.

Why is it Americans both, Liberal and Conservative say if this doesn't happen or if so and so is/isn't elected that they are gonna move to Canada. Come on guys can't you leave us alone and go to mexico instead.

By all means - never denied a man some knowledge when he doesn't know what to do!
Renunciation of U.S. Citizenship

B. ELEMENTS OF RENUNCIATION

A person wishing to renounce his or her U.S. citizenship must voluntarily and with intent to relinquish U.S. citizenship:

appear in person before a U.S. consular or diplomatic officer,
in a foreign country (normally at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate); and
sign an oath of renunciation

Renunciations that do not meet the conditions described above have no legal effect. Because of the provisions of section 349(a)(5), Americans cannot effectively renounce their citizenship by mail, through an agent, or while in the United States. In fact, U.S. courts have held certain attempts to renounce U.S. citizenship to be ineffective on a variety of grounds, as discussed below.

A list of Embassies, Consulates and Diplomatic Missions

simply go to a State Dept. office, hand in your passport, and announce that you are no longer a citizen of the USA.

It doesn't work that way. It cannot be done inside the United States. It must be done through a US Embasy/Consular Office. There is paperwork, interviews, etc... that need to be dealt with. I don't have a passport, which actually makes it more difficult. I'm going to need to GET a passport, to go to another country, acquire citizenship there (which I don't want), in order to renounce my US Citizenship, then renounce the citizenship of whatever other nation I have citizenship from. Trust me, I've been researching this for several days now.

my friends are mid-level employees of the US State Dept. I will ask them how you can renounce your citizenship.

I suggest you go to Britain, and then fly to Iran..and then request political asylum.

*snip for prosperity* . . . everyone knows what I'm thinking in response anyway . . .

Thanks. Please make it clear I do NOT wish to do this with citizenship in any other country.

That might work except that I have no interest in ever setting foot in England.

That's what England felt about the Puritans. Whiney extremist malcontents. It was such a relief when they eventually left, they still celebrate "**** off Puritan!" day.

you won't, you'll just be in the airport

Man, that reminds me, what ever happened to all those folks that were moving to Canada if Bush was reelected? Damn, they never left. No wonder the movies hollywood puts out still suck....

Actually many hollywood movies are filmed in Canada, so many of them did leave the states they just went back after filming was done.

Lol. Why not Somalia? I'm sure they'll treat you nicely in a heavily Islamic anti-American society.

Somalia has no organized government. That's why.

O-kay, that makes a lot of sense. Maybe some people will move to Utah because they don't like Mormons or they'll move to the United States because they don't like guns or they'll move to California because they don't like Mexicans or they'll move to Nebraska because they don't like Husker fans.
