Apparently Senators Lieberman and McCain are ready to out the Presidents's National Security Advisor as the recent leaker of highly classified information to the NY Times. A leak done soley to prop-up Obama as being tough on terrorism.

Breaking: GOP senators issue letter alleging Tom Donilon is the leaker of highly sensitive classified secrets

Treason, anybody? Fox News reports that, within an hour, Senate Republicans will hold a press conference announcing their letter to AG Eric Holder that reveals their belief that National Security Advisor Tom Donilon (and other White House staff) are actively leaking highly classified information to journalists — all as a desperate attempt to make Obama appear stronger on foreign policy than he really is.

See also: Fox News’s story, “GOP senators press Holder for special prosecutor into potential national security leaks“:

GOP senators are putting the pressure on Attorney General Eric Holder to appoint a special counsel to investigate whether the White House is responsible for national security leaks.
“The numerous national security leaks reportedly originating out of the executive branch in recent months have been stunning,” according to a copy of the letter to Holder, signed by more than 30 GOP senators and obtained by Fox News. “If there were ever a case requiring an outside special counsel with bipartisan acceptance and widespread public trust, this is it.”

Obama is pathetic. Everyone in his Administration seems to be dirty.

Government is dirty
Absolutely, especially Obama and his Administration_

If we ever rid ourselves of this plague, we may have to burn DC to the ground just to eradicate the stench_

Re: National Security Advisor Tom Donilon is Leaker of Classified National Security I

Wow, I thought they might save this gem for the October Surprise. Wonder how long before Obama cuts bait on Holder and makes him the goat. He's going to have to do it soon. If he waits until after the election and gains re-election, he'll spend the next term fighting possible impeachment proceedings.

You do understand that basically what they are saying is "we have no evidence or anything, but we just feel like pointing fingers to make ourselves feel better!"

So it's your assertion that the national security leaks haven't happened, we just imagined it?

No, RD is saying that Lieberman and McCain don't actually have any evidence that Donilon is responsible. They just think that he is "potentially" responsible and therefore he warrants being investigated.

Then he failed to read the article:

Their letter points out the recent New York Times story about the drone program and its list of human targets states the reporting involved interviews with "three dozen of [President Obama's] current and former advisers."

It suggests that Thomas Donilon, the national security adviser, is a likely source in The Times reporting, considering he is “the commenter of record on events."

Then he failed to read the article:

I read the article. And you just made my point for me. They are just pointing fingers at the guy because he's high up enough to actually know details and therefor could have potentially been the source. They have no evidence that this was done to make Obama look good, they have no evidence that Donilon was involved.

It's yet another witch hunt.

Re: National Security Advisor Tom Donilon is Leaker of Classified National Security I

They really shouldn't 'come out' with anything unless they have substantial proof - anything else is libelous.

What really happenned is they wrote a letter suggesting that he should be looked at as a possible suspect. Ok, I get that.

Then the kool-aid drinkers decided to interpret that as "Oh the Republicans found the guy! Let's dogpile on him without any evidence!"

That's why we are talking in a thread with the incredibly unreasonable title "National Security Advisor Tom Donilon is Leaker of Classified National Security Info" when in reality there is no evidence he did anything wrong.

.

Except, of course, Obama is tough on terrorism. Ask Osama Bin Laden or any of the other former terrorists who've been paid a visit by U.S. drones. The only people who don't think Obama has been tough on terrorism are right wing partisan hacks.

It's the standard tactic of the Far Right. It's all they have.

Or entire nations in the middle east, Africa and Asia. Ask the man on the street in Afghanistan if our war on terror makes him feel all warm and fuzzy; since Obama has announced the U.S. military end date there. I agree that zapping these morons with drones, supported with intel and special ops is far better than playing nation building games, but that alone will not "git-r-done". We must stop rewarding failure and paying "nations" like Pakistan/Afghanistan money to laugh at us while letting Osama Bin Laden spend his retirement there. We have NO cohesive foreign policy except to toss money in every direction and hope it all just works itself out. USA, USA, USA...

Re: National Security Advisor Tom Donilon is Leaker of Classified National Security I

So McCain and Lieberman just guessed ?

Nope. Of course, Obama will claim "Executive Privilege", as that is the new Legislative Branch ;)

No, that's not what they did. They wrote a letter asking for a special prosecutor to INVESTIGATE the motives and people behind these leaks. Nice reframe, but it's actually nice to see the congress doing it's job once in a while.

Then the kool-aid drinkers decided to interpret that as "Oh the Republicans found the guy! Let's dogpile on him without any evidence!"

And if it turns out they are correct you'll look rather silly calling folks "kool-aid drinkers".

That's why we are talking in a thread with the incredibly unreasonable title "National Security Advisor Tom Donilon is Leaker of Classified National Security Info" when in reality there is no evidence he did anything wrong.

You think they just pulled his name out of a hat somewhere? Again, they gave the reasoning behind their suspicion (that you ignore because it doesn't suit you) and asked for a non-biased special prosecutor to find the facts. I'm sure you don't think any investigation is necessary.

That's as far as I got. Lemme know how it turns out....

Read the title of the link from Fox dude. They said that they suspect this guy, amongst others, as a suspect.

And if it turns out they are correct you'll look rather silly calling folks "kool-aid drinkers".

I ain't complaining that some people are saying "maybe it was this guy? We should check it out." I am complaining that there are people that have already indited this guy in their head. That's why you are posting in a thread that proclaims this guy as being guilty, without any evidence that he is guilty.

Again, i'm fine with being suspicious, I'm not fine with people assuming he did it as many right wingers are doing in this thread and all over the web.

Iirc, we learned during the Bush Admin if the Pres says it's okay, then it's not illegal to leak classified info. Here's the bed we made.

So you are all for appointing a special prosecuter to investigate ? And have no doubts that Obama is concerned about such leaks, and would not compromise national security for a cheap campaign stunt ...................

I have no problem with an investigation. As far as what Obama is concerned with, I'm not going to make ignorant assertions as if I know the truth before any of the facts become known. Why you have such a problem with that, I don't know.

The only link in the OP has this title - "GOP senators press Holder for special prosecutor into potential national security leaks“.

You have a legitimate point there IMO.

Okay. Now I expect that same metric be applied equally across bias and party line.

Look, I'm of the opinion that McCain at least is dead in the head and on the shelf well past his expiration date. But I'd like to know precisely what he means by "commenter of record". If that means McCain got the Times to give up his name as one of their sources - then he's right to call the guy out. Otherwise, it is as you said, they shouldn't be pointing the guilt his way.

Actually no, we didn't learn that, though that is true. The POTUS is the ultimate classifying authority. If he wants to declassify on the fly, that's well within his purview and power to do so. However, the problem comes when someone other than the POTUS leaks because of the president's undocumented/hidden direction. No president is ever going to say, yeah, I told him to do that.

The leaker always ends up being the goat - that's what we learned during the Bush years (for those of you who are young, we older folks knew that already). Just ask Scooter.

Agreed. I don't read the letter as saying that he has a source telling him this guy is the leak. I read it as "this guy has access to the info, maybe it's him?" And to recap, I'm fine with that. I think the announcement of the letter (the huge announcement and conference) should have been handled better (it makes it look as though they are just looking for political points and not actually interested in finding who it is for actual security reasons). My problem arises when people take that and it leads them to an uninformed decision.
