This is funny, she thinks SCOTUS upheld SB1070, when it clearly didn't. This woman either clueless or she's so embarrassed that now she's lying her ass off to save face. Sure the police can ask someone for their papers, but what then?

Ok, AZ failed. I may not like the ruling but it is what it is. I will accept the decision, because that is our system.
So can I expect the feds to step up and deal with illegal immigration problem or will they continue to pander to the illegal alien? Can I expect the feds to now handle the payment for health care and eduction of the illegal aliens? It is a federal issue now, not a State issue, is it not?

I appreciate your honesty Mike, and you're always a straight shooter, so I'll be honest back with you- probably not anytime soon. The federal government is not going to shift it's handling of immigration until a grand bargain is struck that has bi-partisan support. The majority of both parties support various policy changes, but neither party has absolute support for any given policy, so neither party can get anything passed alone. Neither 80% of Democrats nor 80% of Republicans is going to be enough to get something through anytime soon, and that's all either party can muster for any given approach. The only way to get anything done is going to be by finding a bi-partisan solution so you can combine the majorities of both parties behind something. Fundamentally that means it needs to include two things- a more humane policy for people already here and tighter border control. All in one bill.

The problem is, DC is so hyperpartisan right now that every Democrat will vote against any policy Republicans propose and every Republican will vote against every policy Democrats could propose as a matter of course. Republicans, in particular, need to stop attacking the members of their party that are willing to compromise. Graham, Rubio and McCain in particular are taking an incredible amount of heat for showing a willingness to enact comprehensive immigration reform, and that is a big setback.

The only real path to a solution is for all of us to pressure our representatives to support bi-partisan, comprehensive, immigration reform even if it means compromising on some things. As long as both sides keep pushing for "my way or the highway" "get everything you want or it's treason" type stuff, we're doomed to continue the status quo indefinitely. It may be easier after the election though. After the election, Republicans won't have any real reason to demonize Obama and the Democrats won't have any real reason to avoid anything that could make the Republicans look less brutal to Hispanics. Hopefully we can reach a bi-partisan solution more easily then.

For you personally, my recommendation would be to write Senator McCain and tell him that you are behind his attempts to reach a bi-partisan immigration deal 100%. He really is a stand up guy at least on this issue and he's taking a lot of heat for doing the right thing on it. He's been one of the few people in either party to be willing to reach across the aisle on this and he has recently pulled back from that due to heat from his constituents. If ever a letter to your senator is going to count, this is one of those times for folks in Arizona IMO.

Illegal immigration is down 80%. Since 2008 Customs and Border Protection workforce has jumped 32 percent; Border Patrol agents have surged from 14,923 to 21,370; and the share of miles on the southwest border under "operational control" has increased since 2006 to 44 percent, or 873 miles. Immigration was always a Federal issue.

Now don't you feel better, Mike? ;)

I do write my representatives. I understand the problem is in DC. It is a shame the too many important issues get hung up over poliitics.

Nope.
Stats don't mean a thing. When you see crossings into the US everyday. When you see no respect for our laws (broken or not) don't mean anything to those that enter illegally, When concerns of the people of many States are basically ignored, then nope I don't feel better by having stats posted. This administration pretty much has said to many States it is our way or no way. Bi partisonship is a two way street. I fault Congress and the Administration for the gridlock.

Actually that is EXACTLY what the federal gov't NOW does - it pays "bribes" to the states in the form of education aid and medicaid "matcting" funds to force them to accept illegal aliens, provide them all sorts of state services, and prevents the states from "helping" enforce the federal immigration law. King Barack may now simply ignore enforcement of the federal immigration law and MANDATE that the states do not interfere.

Gov. Brewer is so heavily invested in the immigration mess she can't simply accept the outcome and go on her way.

The issue is pushing a lot of buttons along the border and emotions are up. In a political system that bemoans waste in government, bad decisions, and engages in constant fingerpointing if Gov. Brewer admits she wasted so much tax payer money, the courts' time on a very flawed law most scholars thought wouldn't survive judicial review and the only upheld part might be seriously curtailed in the future.

If Gov. Brewer is upset at the lack of federal effort in immigration perhaps she should stop holding public charades and talk to, at the very least, her own party in Congress. It is a shame our nation of immigrants has had such a checkered past in regards to who we welcomed in and who we shunned.
 
I've news for you - it was a victory. The Obama admin wanted the law struck down in toto. Instead the key provision was upheld, the same provision several other states' [some proposed] laws hang on. It also puts the feds in the spotlight. Do you seriously think Arizona will be quiet when the feds drop the ball and refuse to deport aliens in custody?

Here's what will happen. The feds will refuse to answer a phone call, and some illegal AZ law enforcement had to release because of it, will commit some heinous crime. The backlash will begin.

No bi-partisan solution is going to happen until the nimrods on both sides of the fence stop floating the amnesty nonsense in direct contradiction to their constituencies. They can try, but in the end, the flood of hate mail from their own voters stops them every time.

Oh and I love how the Obama admin is taking credit for the fence working - the same fence he and a lot of others now pointing to it's success, opposed and said would be useless.

Brewer is in a bad spot...I believe most people in the border states are against illegal immigration. I believe the results of illegal immigration are far far worse in the border states than the media tells the rest of the country. Illegals have saturated the entire country, they arent just in border states anymore, they are in NY NJ the entire east coast as well as the west coast now.
If theres that many on the east coast can you even begin to imagine how many are in Calif, Ariz etc. Illegal immigration is costing this country billions upon billions, in education and health care let alone everything else we have to provide for them. I personally cant get mad a brewer she is doing what her citizens for the most part want.
 
I believe a lot of things, it is the proof of it all that should matter.

Much is made on both sides of the issue when it comes to cost of immigrants, much has been forgotten about past 'invasions' of non-english speaking immigrants. I'm certain a nation as strong as ours, as flexible as ours can absorb all who want US Citizenship. The biggest issue is are those already here and are not so eager to share are not willing to reform immigration as more embracing but see 'the wall' as the solution.

Funny thing about border states and immigration. Immigrants go to where the work is, not a huge amount of work in the desert SW. The immigrants flow to more northern states because that is where the work is.
