And when he talks about weening young people off of it, he isn't talking about not getting the money that is owed to them, he only means that you should plan your retirement as if social security won't be there for you, which isn't terrible advice. SS is not meant to serve as someone's main source of income during retirement.

um...he wouldn't go to jail and lose his House seat, if he chose to be consistent with his beliefs and not collect SS.

Re: Ron Paul Admits He's On Social Security, Even Though He Believes It's Unconstitut

Am I missing something or did Ron Paul come out and suggest that seniors should simply not take their Social Security checks? Has he been advocating that individuals simply forgo the system and I've just missed that? It'd be hypocritical if he was doing something he was telling others they shouldn't do. He'd be a hypocrite to say we should remove social security and then he voted to keep social security...it's not hypocritical to say that a program needs to end but to use said program during the time in which it's available.

I'm not a "fervent supporter" or someone that views him as a "prophet" and I've certainly had no issue speaking negatively about him when it's due....but this mindset and action isn't hypocritical, it's a rational and reasonable method of existing in the world.

Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) may rail against Social Security insolvency in the public eye, but that hasn't stopped him from accepting the government checks.
The libertarian-leaning Republican and former presidential candidate admitted Wednesday that he accepts Social Security checks just minutes after he called for younger generations to wean themselves off the program, in an interview on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

If he paid into it, then he is entitled to it. If it's unconstitutional, then government forcing us to pay into it is also unconstitutional. I'd personally prefer to opt out and not take SS when I become of age. Since I've paid in $50,000 and counting, you bet your ass I'm going to take it when I am elligible.

You were forced to pay into it, you should get your money back. But whatever, the haters need to hate regardless of how illogical they're being.

I'm against SS in principle but I fully expect to use it when I become qualified for it.
My money has been removed from me, for this program and as long as it still exists when I retire, I will take advantage of it.

That does not make one a hypocrite.

Anybody who makes more than $100,000 in retirement should not get SS......Mark Zuckerburg should NOT get it. ETC. ETC....

This thread is the tired old "if you advocate for a rule change you must not use the rule or some people will mistakenly call you a hypocrite". Of all the things wrong with Paul and his positions on the issues, and people want to make an issue of this? People who do not use resources available to them, even if they advocate against the resource being available, are idiots. This is the same type of stupidity that people use against Buffett and others, and is just as stupid as those stupid arguments.

I got no use for Ron Paul, but I have less use for stupid arguments.
