Senator Asks DOJ to Investigate SWAT-ting Attacks on Conservative Bloggers

The reason has been explained several times on this thread, but this will help: "in the case of cybercrime the stickiest point, is to determine the geographic jurisdiction. This is more difficult in cybercrime cases than in other types of crime because often the perpetrator is not in the same city, state or even country as the victim." What makes cybercrime laws so difficult to enforce | TechRepublic

So the interstate commerce clause that Conservatives hate when it goes against them...interesting how it's the greatest thing ever when it helps you out.

I refuse 100% to believe you would adopt this stance if it were happening to left wing bloggers.

I don't think cons would have their panties in a wad over "this is a First Amendment issue" if it were left wing bloggers either.

I think you are underestimating the character of quite a few of the parties involved in this situation---particularly Patterico and Ericksen.

Erickson was noted for having written on Twitter about Supreme Court Justice David Souter: "The nation loses the only goat f***ing child molester to ever serve on the Supreme Court in David Souter's retirement."[13][14][15][16] [...]

In May 2010, Erickson wrote in the RedState blog that he would be releasing evidence that Will Folks, a South Carolina GOP political operative, had made false allegations that he had an affair with gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley and that the allegations were "initiated by a rival political campaign.".[21] Later that day, Erickson wrote, "I have no clue if anyone is behind Will Folks doing this. [...] With apologies to RedState readers, [...] I’ve had no hesitation in stringing the media along like Folks has done."[22][23] Byron York, a conservative journalist, criticized Erickson: "acrificing your own credibility in an effort to undermine someone else’s is not a good idea, and what Erickson has done has surely hurt both his own reputation and that of his website."[23]

In 2011 Democrat Jim Webb, the senior United States Senator from Virginia, announced that he would not seek re-election in 2012. Republican George Allen announced that he would try to win back the seat that he lost to Webb in 2006, but Erickson declined to endorse the "establishment" Allen, complaining of Allen's voting record. Erickson stated that he had "decided to support (Tea Party organizer) Jamie Radtke for the Senate."[24] In August, however, Erickson approvingly quoted anonymous commentators who alleged that when Radtke spoke at a Redstate gathering she was a "drunk rambling idiot."[25] According to an email sent earlier by Erickson to the Radtke campaign and forwarded to Ben Smith, Erickson admitted having revised his public opinion about Radtke because "my bosses are huge Allen friends."[26] Smith had previously raised questions about Erickson's independence from the financial interests of his employer by noting that an official with RedState.com's publisher had sent out an email that appeared to be selling Erickson's endorsement.[27]

Exactly what type of "character" were you referring to?

What's interesting to me is how you try to shift the discussion into the irrelevant and divisive.

I have no idea whether conservatives "hate" the interstate commerce clause, much less those who are conservative who post here at DP. Are there threads on this topic? Please link so I can study up.

As for your other comment, that you "don't think cons would have their panties in a wad over 'this is a First Amendment issue' if it were left wing bloggers either," there you go being pointlessly divisive again. I can't speak for anybody else, but I would be equally horrified if liberal bloggers were under attack. Of course, though, I'm not a knee-jerk hack who projects partisan ill-will onto others.

Like I said, two dudes that we never heard of until this happened.

I am 125% FOR finding who did this and taking them to trial. I don't condone threats to civilians no matter their political rants.

But unlike a fella wanting to nuke the Middle East, I see degrees of response. Having the DOJ launch an investigation into recent leaks of classified information... go for it.

But before demanding the DOJ investigate the blogger attacks, let the States and FBI have a crack at this. IF they find a vast left wing political attack network THEN DOJ their ass.

Until then it is a hyper-partisan Senator pandering to the right wingnuts.

Oh, and the hyper partisan kool-aide drinkers trying to justify the grandstanding...
