I just read a piece on the hill.com about a proposal for the United Nations to have full control over the internet. Beacons of internet freedom like Russia, and China are in full support of the proposal (sarcasm should be duly noted). This would take the internet out of the hands of private businesses and into the wonderful hands of the biggest bureaucracy in the world. We're talking about our freedoms being taken away not from our own government, but an international coalition of politicians and bureaucrats. This would mean that upcoming businesses who rely on the internet and its freedoms would be bogged down by political regulations and decent.
The American people fought and won against SOPA and PIPA. We lost the battle for CISPA. This is entirely new form of internet control that violates our Constitution by allowing an international entity to control our freedoms.
The positive thing about this is both sides of the aisle on Capital Hill are against it. Even people within the Obama Administration are against it, which is surprising considering their history on liberties of the internet and people in general.
My hope is that this thing is dead on arrival when it comes to Congress or whatever committee. Probably the president's desk as Congress is seemingly allocating all its power to the executive branch recently.
