Pizza parlor’s giveaway sparks heated debate

    Pizza parlor

A pizza parlor is being criticized for asking customers to order a pie in another language.

Dallas-based Pizza Patrón, with 104 outlets across the country, plans to give away 80,000 large pepperoni pizzas on June 5 to anyone who orders in Spanish, according to a report in USA Today.

Some have slammed the deal, as immigration remains a hot button issue in the country.
"It seems to punish people who can't speak Spanish, and I resent that," Peter Thomas, chairman of the Conservative Caucus, says in the report. "In public areas, people should be speaking English, and that includes pizza parlors."
So conservatives have a problem with this?

Really? I thought conservatives were all for a free market and allowing a business owner to run his/her business as they wish?

    Is this a problem?

What if a company that sells beer would give away free beer if you ordered in German? Would that be an issue?

Free Chinese food if you ordered in Chinese?

Free cheese is you order in French?

Is this the kind of crap that makes politicians look like fools?

I'm just lost as to why this pizza place is getting flack over this.

On the flip side - it's fantastic advertising and marketing.

    Thoughts?

I highly doubt most conservatives have a problem with this at all. Mr. Thomas is being a dumb ass. But yeah, good publicity.

I have Greek friends who get free souvlakis when they order in Greek, I see no problem with this. Though, really, it should be Italian, not Spanish.

Which does nothing but highlight your wanton desire to not actually have an objective view of the other side or actually understand how and why they think but rather wish to make judgements based on stereotypes and charicatures in the same way as people who view asians as buck toothed squinty eyed math geniuses or southerners as red necked mullet wearing nascar fans.

Conservatives in general agree with the free market and the rights of business owners to do what they wish, within the reasonable confines of the law, to generate business and revenue.

However, one can dislike what someone is doing while still believing they should have the right to do it.

For example, I think the things said by Westboro Baptist are horrible, attrocious, ignorant things and I don't agree with and seemingly are just there to attack the grieving family....but at the same time, I believe in their right to be able to speak their hatefilled horrible crap.

If there was a conservative sitting there saying that the GOVERNMENT should ban this person from doing the promotion, then perhaps you'd have an argument. However, there's nothing at all anti-conservative or anti-free market in having an issue with a promotion he's doing and not supporting it on a private level yourself.

Now actually getting worked up over this enough for death threats? That's just ridiculously stupid. They're shooting for their customer base, which makes sense.

How stupid would you have to be not to be able to say, "Una pizza peperoni, por favor"?

This is overblown controversy. The requirement is to say "Pizza Por Favor" when you call in. And the details are on the website. And it's a themed restaurant.

Would people be screaming bloody murder if Olive Garden or an Italian gellato place offered a free dessert for saying thank you in Italian?

Yes, he should be asking for people to order in Italian instead. F*ck Spanish. That's the least graceful of the romantic languages.

    Exactly. Marketing isn't finance.

Italians at least know which field has its place. This guy's pizza probably tastes like a soggy rag.

Of course not. Italians actually assimilated and contributed to society. Hispanics just make a mess of everything like typical workaholics.

Are you being serious or are you throwing out random sarcastic remarks that don't further debate?
