Ted Nugent explodes at notion he's not a moderate

Do you get it that lots of people here simply do not see his talent? I grew up with the guy at the same time he did right here in SE Michigan and I never saw it then either. And that was long before the political stuff. I probably saw the guy two dozen times on various shows with other bands. He was at best middle of the pack. The only time they moved near to the head of the line was when they had JOURNEY TO THE CENTER as a big radio play hit. Otherwise, on a eight band show, they were third or fourth from the closers.

I see... so Haymarket and Top Cats' opinion of Ted Nugents talent somehow trump the millions of fans he has had and still has.....
they are all wrong, and you guys are right.... gotcha.

there ya go folks... no need to gauge a guys talent for yourself anymore.. just go to one of these guys to get the gospel on talent.... only they know talent, and if they don't see it, it doesn't exist.

I see, as usual, the point flew over your head.... that's fine, I'm patient with the slow this evening.

my point was , your opinion of his music .. in no way, shape, form ,or fashion.. detracts from his talent.

he has that talent regardless of what you think or see.

getting it now?

Except, of course, he doesn't have any talent. He may have had at one time - I wouldn't know because at the time he was supposedly relevant I was off fighting a war he wanted no part of and was listening to artists that really mattered and actually did have talent.

Ted Nugent has 'millions of fans'? Really? On what planet? He's an no-talent has been who really never was.

Hard to believe for a band with 'millions' of fans. I guess those other bands must have had billions of fans.

oh looky... another grand arbiter of talent.

they have millions too.... some have billions of fans though.. the only who have fans worldwide like Micheal Jackson or Madonna

Millions of people like (or liked) Brittany Spears and Justin Bieber. Doesn't mean they have talent. The problem here is that there's no empirical measure of talent. Personally I think the guy's a pretty good guitarist who plays ****ty music. You obviously think otherwise. Neither of us is right in any objective way, and neither are his fans. What can be objectively determined is that Ted Nugent has had a substantially smaller presence in rock and roll history than have numerous other individuals. He is, at best, a middle of the road talent in terms of fame, success and influence.

This just in - everybody who listens to music, watches a movie, reads a book -you name it - is an arbiter of talent. You've decreed that Asshat Nugent has talent - bingo, that makes you an arbiter. I've stated that he's a no talent washed up fourth rate musician from 40 years ago. That makes me an arbiter of talent.

What is your point?

yes, millions.. here on earth.

Then he must sell millions of cd's or must get downloaded millions of times or must be worth millions and millions of dollars. Instead no, he's just a hack playing third rate venues and getting laughed at.

Millions of fans?:lamo

well, we certainly can't argue taste... but I think talent is arguable.... it's simply a measurement of proficiency.

and yes, there are much bigger stars in rock and roll... much better too.....I don"t think anyone is arguing Ted is the greatest ever, I know i'm not.

and yes, Spears and Bieber are talented too... i don't like either one of their musics... but I can't deny their talent.

over 35 million in record sales alone... and who knows how many millions of ticket sales... and yes, he's worth millions and millions.

are you arguing that all of his 6000 concerts have taken place in 3rd rate venues?.. really?

you are talking out of your ass.

taste =/= talent

well, we certainly can't argue taste... but I think talent is arguable.... it's simply a measurement of proficiency.

That's one way of looking at it, but measuring proficiency is highly subjective. That would be different if we were discussing talent in something measurable (e.g. running a marathon, throwing a football, etc). Musical talent is a tad more ephemeral.

and yes, there are much bigger stars in rock and roll... much better too.....I don"t think anyone is arguing Ted is the greatest ever, I know i'm not.

A few pages ago, someone else in this thread tried to argue that he was a legend in the rock community, which strikes me as somewhat ridiculous.

I can deny their talent. Obviously it depends what you're talking about. They're both competent singers (for instance), and they clearly have the ability to connect with their target audience, but it's not remotely clear to me what, if any, creative ability they have. It's also not at all clear to me how much they're a product of significant tampering by agents, producers, choreographers, sound technicians, etc, etc. However, that's really not the point I was making. The point I was making is that number of fans isn't necessarily a good litmus test for talent. For instance, I think that Leonard Cohen is a much more talented songwriter than, say, Prince, but quite a lot of people have no idea who Leonard Cohen is, and he's certainly sold far fewer albums than Prince has.

So he still trails the Dixie Chicks in the total number of albums sold? Go figure.

It still cracks me up that you put this piece of dirt in the same category musically as Clapton, Hendrix, the Beatles, the Who, Mark Knopfler, Led Zeppelin, Eagles - artists who people actually give a damn about.

Tell me again what a 'legend' he is.

yes, he trails the Dixie Chicks in album sales.... well, that's if you accept that 35 million is less than 26 million.

I'm sure it does crack you up... and you sound a bit offended that someone might actually like music that you don't like... oh well, you'll live.
I don't tend to make competitions of the bands I like... I like them, or I don't.. I like all the bands you listed, and I like Ted too( and people give a damn about him too).....i'm not the one turning this into a dick measuring contest between musicians, that would be you.

I happen to think he's a rock and roll legend... many many people do... you obviously don't.

Nugent is a rock legend

Brittany and Bieber have talent

Bieber net worth is about 120 million

Brittany net worth is about 200 million

Yeah. Keep telling yourself that.

Bieber net worth is about 120 million

Brittany net worth is about 200 million

Yes, of course. Wealth is an excellent proxy for musical talent. That is in no way a facile argument.

getting it now?

If making ****ty music is a sign of talent in your little mixed up world, then so be it. As to anything you say flying over my head, you'll need to get up earlier and bring your lunch pail skippy.

Gone for a day and this thread... which had already slipped into repetition ad nauseum... and 10 more pages have been added. Oy vey. I cannot imagine what else could be said that wasn't already said.

I have to get up early and pack a lunch to watch things fly over your head?... jeez, I don't think I want to go through all that trouble , especially when I can sit here and watch it happen while I sip my whiskey.

one more time... your taste has nothing to do with his talent.

One more time. He has **** talent. I will say this however, he has great talent at being a dickhead.
