Santorum Signs 3-Year Old Daughter Up For NRA Membership

At his speech to the National Rifle Association this weekend, Rick Santorum revealed that he has signed his 3-year-old daughter Bella up as a member of the pro-gun group.
“Karen and I are life members of the NRA, and we wanted to announce today that … now Bella is a life member of the NRA too,” Santorum said. “I hope it is a long life.”

This seems wrong on many levels to me. But I loathe guns.

well, to a guy who loathes guns, I guess it would be wrong on many levels.

i don't hold such a hatred of guns ( the opposite in fact), so i don't really care what membership he paid for or for whom he paid it for.... it's a non-issue.

if ya loathe guns... don't sign up for a membership with the NRA...not much left to say on the matter.

Poor kid is going to get gun-related junk mail for life and didn't even get to have a say in it.

So what if she's a paid member? It means nothing. There are tons of people who are members of the NRA who don't even own guns.

Stop overreacting.

Yes you're right. A 3 year old disabled girls needs a gun. Like a fish needs a bicycle.

haha ok, i admit, that was clever.

I don't loathe guns, but I think it's ridiculous. Will politicians never stop pimping?

Well said Maggie. This reeks of sucking up.

Nor do I have a loathing for guns or the Second Amendment. I think it - on balance does more good than harm. But this is simply stupid.

I can't see why any one would even care about this. No one is harmed by her having a membership.

For the record: I do not like guns but do love the constitution so understand that guns are part of our society.

Again, so what? Nobody *NEEDS* anything. I've subscribed to magazines for my kids before, they didn't "need" it. They just got it. Stop being so biased.

don't be so goddmaned silly... he didn't buy her a gun.. be bought her a membership in the NRA.

she gets a shiny sticker and a newsletter for that membership, not a gun.

Pimping is probably more descriptive than you might have been thinking. He is using his child to garner points with the pro gun crowd.

Now, if he wants to make points with the free speech crowd, he can get subscriptions to Playboy for his teenage sons....

I agree with this. What a bunch of outrage about nothing.

It's stupid not because its a 3 year old becoming a member of the NRA, its stupid not because a father would do this with his daughter, it's stupid because a father uses his daughter to pander to voters and potential supporters.

But there's a gun in your avatar?

We have a winner!

She's a couple years younger than I was when my uncles started teaching me to shoot. I don't see what purpose an NRA membership serves-- he's already fully capable of taking her to events-- but it's a fine gift nonetheless.

I would have waited until my own children were older to buy them a membership, but only because they wouldn't appreciate it until they were older.

How is he pandering to the voters when he DROPPED OUT OF THE RACE?

This is true every time some one running for office appears with his family. Every time a candidate kisses a baby he is using some one's baby to pander to voters. As long as no one is hurt by it, it is harmless.

That is so true! I used to be a NRA member, but I don't want to join again because of the endless junk mail that they used to send me asking for more money.
