There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

I'd like it all stopped too. What is anybody proposing that will stop it?

It means that no matter what you will not change your opinion or even slightly admit that you might be wrong because you refuse to look at anything that might skew your world view....basically and nicely put.

Voter ID would at least help stop it.

Firing squads...but I'd settle for arrest, conviction (with massive prison sentences for ANYONE convicted of fraudulently registering or voting), universal condemnation, campaign finance reform, voter ID, etc.

it is also very encompassing as allowing people to vote without ID increases fraud and disenfranchises me by making my vote less effective then it should be.

Sorry but I just cannot believe that voter ID laws disenfranchise anyone. ID's are extremely simple to get and are requirements for damn near anything now a days. From buying cigarettes to renting subsidized appartments to buying a car to getting a bank account...and on and on and on. Hell, I can't even apply for a job or get a bank account without my social security card and an official ID.
Smoking cigarette, drinking beers or owning a bank account do not form the foundation of a democracy, voting does. The question is: will the law prevent more people from voting then it would prevent fraud. There have been attempts to study the impact though from a partisan point of view:

If those numbers are anywhere close to the truth, the requirement can prevent/discourage many more people from voting legitimately than the total number of fraud (of which the ID requirement can only prevent a small part).

Folks, in the world of debate that is a classic example of argumentum ad ignorantiam, or 'appeal to ignorance' (a.k.a. 'argument from ignorance).

That really doesn't need explanation, does it?
