It's just that, you're not gonna get a whole lot of support for the "working poor" on government assistance
When some of them are clearly using the system as a lifestyle support, rather than emergency assistance.

I know, it was hyperbolic. I don't actually think that's what you want to do.

If you qualify for assistance, it's your money. Why waste money worry about or trying ti track people's spending habits? It's a futile effort that I would assume would be more hassle compared to the possible, marginal benefits.

I'm not saying the government should track people.
I'm saying that the beneficiaries should have enough personal ethics to not waste the money.

It should be publicly shamed, rather than legally enforced.

Have to have a skinhead to get in and while I might be disgusted I wouldn't make as much of a fuss. Let me give you an example though of why if you can afford $10 drinks you don't need food stamps; and this is just one of dozens of examples I can give. I know two 22 year olds twins actually, at work. Both live with their parents both only make a little less than me along with their father (around 35k each without overtime and being in the car industry we get
Lots of overtime) and there mom is a waitress. Their mom gets foodstamps
For them and doesn't claim there income. They both have a car and brand new Kawasaki bikes, iPhones, brand new
Clothes and shoes all the time etc. Meanwhile I don't **** the system make
More than them and have a stay at home wife a daughter car payment and house. Yet because I don't game and the government just assumes this middle aged black woman cant make ends meet they help
Her out. They are great guys to hang with after
Work but it gets ridiculous after awhile to know several others game the same way.

Unfortunately, your story is 100% NOT applicable to a club offering a tongue-in-cheek discount for bein' poor.

Unless this bar takes food stamps. Which it doesn't.

Maybe I just haven't been to a club in a while but... is it really saying free before 10:30? Whatever happened to free before 11? The **** am I supposed to do at a club at 10:30?

I'm all for that.

Not the limited selection aspect, but we should use vouchers instead of cash.

My thoughts are if you get cash, it's your money and you can spend it however you want. But you need to budget and it probably means cutting back. If you waste it all, you can't come back and ask for more. You get a set amount relative to your previous income or expenditure level and that's it. Spend it wisely. If you have extra left over to hit a club, go stimulate the economy. Whatever, it's already yours.

But if we use vouchers or other non-cash means to give assistance to the poor, we automatically limit how they can use their benefits. If we adjust where recipients can use their benefits, we have a instant rectifying of wasteful spending.

They used to have the actual stamps and got rid of those because people were trading them for drugs/cash/other stuff.
The ebt cards are abused in a similar manner.

You can measure your attractiveness to the opposite sex by what time you hit the club. I'm a 1:30am guy myself.

No what needs to be done is food stamps need to be eliminated all together, and WIC needs to be strengthened. This will end these problems.

I agree....I don't see anything wrong with people sacrificing a night at the club. Honestly...I'd be more concerned with making sure public housing is nicer, safer, and their schools are better. Giving someone more disposable income isn't the goal of public assistance. It's to provide some safety net to eventually get our of public assistance.

How is wanting to strengthen Women.Infant.Children so that women and their children can get even more healthy foods and not have to resort to getting a bunch of cheap crappy food make me hateful? Do you know what WIC does?

Like all welfare programs it has its benevolent intended consequences and its corrosive unintended consequences.

Well really, the reason pub housing is so ****ty, is because of the people who live there.
You'd have to start kicking out the problem people to make it better, imo.

Probably so....they should put a HOA in charge of those places. The one's I've dealt with make Stalin seem like a teddy bear.

In all honesty I think they need a tier system. You wanna live in nice public facilities? Prove it, keep you house up, stay outta crime. If you don't wanna work (there will always be some...) and don't care about the place you're living in...you can stay in the decripit public housing.

I'm definately a believer in the need for safety nets but I think they can be improved. I think tier systems can work on anything. Bottom of the barrel no ambition? Bottom tier. Working hard? Better housing better neighborhood a little disposable income. Improving more? Wage subsidies until you earn a livable income.

Essentially, positive behavior is rewarded.

Negative behavior is at best, kept on life support and nothing more.
