Re: Food Stamp Friday at the club! $5 off!

If you think it is the Life of Riley why not go on public assistance? I doubt anyone would see being on 'welfare' as a fun joy ride.

I know some folks struggling to make ends meet, but that doesn't mean they have no money if they are on food stamps. It also doesn't mean they can't go out once a month to a club. It also doesn't mean many folks showed up with food stamps cards.

Mostly what all this means is a few of the usual suspects have a very bigoted view on life.

Can imagine what some would type if someone down El Paso way held a 'Bring Your Fake SS card' night...

So I posted in another thread before about the many abuses to our system. This just epitomizes it. This club is asking people to flaunt that they are taking advantage. Oh, and yeah they probably will show up with their brand new Androids and iPhones. White, black, or hispanic this is annoying to me. I have seen the abuses of the system several times, and despite abuse being down (according to government) since 1999, it is likely far more rampant.

Yet, I also know plenty that should be able to get it but don't qualify because they don't cheat the system. Something about it needs to be done to be properly effective. I believe the system has it's place, but supplementing cashiers with three kids with a discount to a bar so a guy can get her drunk and knock her up with another kid is NOT what it should ever be used for.
The problem isn't with the food stamp system.

Rather it's with the club promoting this.
Also, we need to legalize recreational drugs and prostitution.

I'm not rich by most standards, probably "poor" rich, in relation to my income.
Meaning, even though I don't bring in a lot, I allocated my resources in such a manner that I end up having a significant amount of money in bank, at the end of the day.
Compared to people who make similar incomes.

With that said, I deprive myself of "fun" in order to maintain that standard.
From my perspective, if you're using emergency government resources, then spending your discretionary income on "fun" things.
You really don't need emergency government resources.
I was discovering that life just simply isn't fair and bask in the unsung glory of knowing that each obstacle overcome along the way only adds to the satisfaction in the end. Nothing great, after all, was ever accomplished by anyone sulking in his or her misery.

To be fair, many large food corporations lobby to prevent restrictions on food stamp purchases so that the poor will buy their products.

There are many right-wingers who oppose the government telling people what they should feed their families and eat. Even when the government is paying for it.

    Of course that's wrong too.
If you accept a handout, you have to understand that it comes with expectations.

If you have evidence that he was lying, I'd like to see it.

If someone wants to give of their own money so that the unfortunate can have creature comforts, that's more than fine. Personally, socialist ideas like that make me retch.
You benefit from taxpayer funds too, you leech on society. Pay me back for those roads you drive on before you do anything fun.

I'm saying that you have your head way up your ass if you think that food stamps/WIC is fraud-proof. This isn't even including anecdotal statements about where I've seen firsthand how people give others their "coupons" for cash money. Stamps are essentially a bearer bond.

I AM a taxpayer. Your hyperbole is making you wide open to mockery.

Yes, but my point is it wasn't those getting the handout who advocated this - it was the big food companies who wanted those profits. So to blame those receiving food stamps for that isn't fair, and shows less a problem with the food stamp system and more the problem with lobbyists influencing government programs.

    Harry-
You live as you see fit, but one thing I don't expect is for others to live to my standard and not above if they receive gubment assistance. I have no problem with a man denying himself all the fun this life has to give to amass wealth by any measure. Scrooge was just misunderstood...

Now that said, I pity the man who is heartless enough to think an occasional night out where for all any of us know only a few dollars was spent is wanton waste when they,(mostly likely) are the working poor not 'welfare' queens. Not every night shaking what God gave ya, but once a month and as I said before, all this posturing over a tacky promotion, (you should see the car dealer ads in Philly if you want to talk tacky), NO ONE knows if anyone showed up for it!

But bashing 'welfare' makes for great internet fodder...

Let him go pick up cans off the side of the road if he wants to "shake what God gave him".

Oh wait, that sounds a little too much like work. How inhumane.
