So I take it by your hysterics, that you are aware the FDA has historically been wrong on occasion. Thank you for your concession.

It is cheaper to overcook your meat than it is to constantly inspect it for pathogens, that and lawyers.

I see no logical nor rational reason to believe the FDA is wrong on this issue.

just because its pink, slimy, and smelled of NH4 from ONE supplier, doesn't mean the whole process is corrupt.

I don't *know* the answer, but I suspect it has a lot to do with ever-increasing mindsets that fear every possible hazard regardless how remote. You just can't be too safe, ya know.

Lobbyists are part of the democratic process. They ask their representatives to support or not support certain things. They can't force the FDA or anyone else to do anything.

how many Americans have gotten sick due to ammonia poisoning from ground beef?

I've eaten the stuff, and I've seen and tasted meat with and without it. For me, there isn't too much difference, howerver, I can understand opponents wanting to have it listed.

What I don't understand is why people there are people who support NOT having it listed in products it is used in.

Yes, there are people who won't eat it if they know it's in their food. I don't see that any differently than people who eat only organic food. It is their right and I support that.

Pink Slime (or whatever it's real name is) should be listed as an ingredient in any product where it's used. I don't see the problem here in wanting to get it listed.

Completely agree. What is the possible downside to full disclosure? Anyone?

Re: ‘Pink Slime’ Maker Cuts Back Production. Is That a Good Thing?

The major local regional grocery store here bowed to consumer pressure and said they would stop selling ground beef with "pink slime" in it. Just two days later they bowed to political pressure from the governor* to keep selling it, though they said they would sell both and both would be clearly labeled.

I'm very curious to see what the market says. I suspect it might actually be roughly 50/50. Ground beef without "pink slime" will cost more, but some (such as myself) will prefer that. Others either won't care or will not be able to afford the more expensive option.

*- My state has one of the processing plants.
