Occupy 6-Month Anniversary Protest Ends With Zuccotti Park Arrests

Yes, there are Occupy leaders. They organize the protests, start and run the websites, write for the Occupy Wall Street Journal, speak on panels about the Occupy movement, etc. I agree with you that the majority of OWS protesters don't want to eliminate capitalism. But the people with the real microphones do.

Everyone has duties and responsibilities but no one speaks for the group. Have you looked at the demands by the Occupy Maine group, the only Occupy group yet to issue concrete demands?

Do you see anything that is is anti-captilistic in them?

"National Demands

! We demand an end to corporate personhood.
! We demand the removal of private interests from public policy and the instatement of publicly funded elections.
! We demand a progressive tax on the wealthy and the elimination of tax loopholes.
! We demand re-regulation of financial institutions and the prosecution of financial criminals.
! We demand the return of Bank and investment firm bailout money to the People
! We demand an end to capital punishment.
! We demand the restoration of “sound” money and competition in currency.

Local Demands

! We demand affordable heating oil for Mainers.
! We demand bringing the men and women of the Maine National Guard home.
! We demand amending corporate personhood.
! We demand viable public transportation infrastructure."

Fools or not, OWS is right about one thing: Wall street needs downsizing. Lots of it. It's not rocket science. They have all the money. Asking the rest of us to pay is beyond ludicrous. When a man has surplus, and his neighbor lacks, there's something to fix.
Those of you who babble about how families with less money are like that because they're lazy, get out. GET OUT! try living off an annual household income of 20K or less, with a full time job, and possibly an extra job or two on the side. The 1% don't need all that money, don't use all that money, and certainly haven't earned it. Before I hear any remarks about whining for money, let me say this: This is protesting, not whining. We're not begging for you to give us your money, we're asking you to give back money to society. The simple truth about the economy: There's enough money out there for everyone to have a wage to sustain themselves on. When one has more wage then they need, someone else doesn't have enough. When Wall Street hoards the money for themselves, they're keeping the rest of us from getting the money we need.

So, socialism.

Well duh, yeah. Most of that is anti capitalist, but lets just take the obvious one, 'affordable heating oil'. This implies govt artificially setting a price for a commodity. Price controls are as anti-capitalist as you can get. Progressive taxation is also anti capitalist as it targets those with capital, taking their property without just compensation.

1. Yes, I do. High School. My wage is 0$ an hour. I would like a raise, but I somehow doubt that'll be happening.
2. ...
3. Giving money to people, and giving back to society aren't the same thing, you know.
Give back to society, and people obtain the money in their wages. You do know why we have taxes, right? It's the cost of being an American. Higher taxes are the cost of being a wealthy American. If you don't like it, then you can always switch to being a regular American.

You're young. Maybe you haven't heard that your sort of thinking has been expressed before...and it has fallen by the wayside.

Maybe I'll be there to shake your hand
Maybe I'll be there to share the land
That they'll be givin' away
When we all live together
I'm talkin' 'bout together now

Share The Land - The Guess Who

Now, I suggest you consider these words carefully. Do you agree with them? Do you think the concept described in these lyrics is doable?

I contend these words are not very different than your own.

Lol, we've heard the socialist losers saying that line for decades now. The Revolution is always just around the corner. What a larf.

OWS is toast. They had fifteen of brief media attention and they blew it. They've nothing of note except get arrested and annoy the living bejeezus out of the businesses around them. They have no power, no real support and the only people paying attention to them are the police.

Who gives a tinkers cuss about OWS anymore?

I've never heard that expression before...I like it.

Oh wonderfull.

Ohhhh, how would it be "progress" when the rich are being taxed to death?

How about just no bailouts? :2razz:

So your commie friends on death row stay alive to give you advice???????

Oh yea I see why they should not list any demands now. Heating oil lol I guess they like oil?

The school year ends with the coming of summer.
Nice weather begins with the coming of summer.
People tend to be more tolerant of being outside with the coming of nice weather.
No, it doesn't seem odd.
You're making an awful big jump to a conclusion, Fiddy.

I'm saying it's a dumb time to encourage students not to do school or work. I know you are still in high school, but the last few weeks before the semester ends is just the worst time to abandon attention to academics. Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines.

we're asking you to give back money to society.

Thanks for asking. My hope is that the response is simple...a giant middle finger to those that believe money is "societies" rather than an individuals. Or more to the point, that somehow those that have money are somehow exterior to "society".

You live in the United States. So does the "1%". Congratulations, you're both part of the same society and the money is already within said society.

You're not asking that it be given BACK to society...you're whining that it should be given to those in society who YOU deem should have it.

When one has more wage then they need, someone else doesn't have enough.

The purpose of the US government is not to deem how much money people "need" nor to provide people with money that they need.

To be perfectly frank, I'd rather those Bitching about the mean old 1% to pick up and move their ass to one of the dozens of other countries whose mentality of what government should be fits their entitled depenedenent mentality rather than ****ting upon the social contract this country was founded on

Sorry, but you and the wealthy are both simply "Americans". Perhaps they have no educated you on this fact, but there is no official special desgination in this country for "Wealthy american" or "regular American". There is nothing that states one can not be wealthy and a "regular American". Those who are "wealthy" also, already, by and large do pay a higher percentage of their wealth in taxes than many people and unquestionably provide more dollars to how you define society, AKA government (which GOD that explains sooooo much of your mindset now that its clear that you consider those things one in the same), then those who are not "wealthy"...regardless of what arbitrary measure you deem to use as your definition of "wealthy" (Which is in and of itself a completely subjective and opinion based terminology)

Catawba, it's very heartening to see that you use the same level headed, fair minded, honest and forthright attitude that you have in regards to stereotypes, misinformation, insults, and demonizations of the tea party is the same as you provide for OWS.

Nope its not over yet. Not even close. This movement is just gearing up again. When spring comes back around i think something big will happen. The movement is planning a spring awakening..

As I said six months ago..... Give me 30 National Guardsman and I can fix this problem with two words.... "FIX BAYONETTS!!!!" These losers don't have the stomach to truly bleed for their cause. Show them a couple of bloody heads and they'll be gone like yesterday's newspapers.

Until the OWS movement starts practicing what they preach then I will have no respect for them as a whole. They protest big business and yet continue to support big business. When OWS comes together and actively boycotts McDonald's, Wal-Mart, Nike, Wells Fargo, and other major corporations then they will seem legit. I went to a couple OWS movements and there were walmart bags everywhere. Big Macs galore. Nike swooshes as far as the eye could see.......these businesses could care less about what your sign says as long as you keep funneling money to them. OWS wants to make a difference they could. But all they care about is headlines.

I lived in Maine for a couple of years and heating oil is expensive as hell. It's tied to gas prices like anything else oil based.
Cheap heating oil is a thing of the past. thats why no one uses it. Except for I guess people in Maine?

IF the Occupy movement starts back up into a decent swing it'll be interesting to see how a few things go....

1. Will the intensity burn in a similar fashion? During it's height, when people were comparing OWS to the TP, I stated that OWS was like a sprint while the Tea Party was more like a marathon, both having its political purposes but both having very different strategies. Can OWS manage to get that blistering bit of short lived activity going again like it did the last time out, or will it be a bit less of a major event?

2. Will the general publics interest be as big. Whether it was positive or negative interest, it didn't change that the movement got a TON of media attention and eyes on by general onlookers. It crossed over into being a pop culture type of thing, similar to what happened with the TP movement and even the election of Barack Obama. It went beyond a simple political movement. However, this second time around, will the public's interest in the happenings be as great as before?

3. Will the reactions to it continue the path that it was heading last time around, start anew, or move ot even more negative. Towards the end of its height the general mentality towards OWS seemed to be drifting negative. Time away however can potentially right the course. The question is, if it returns, does it start out with a positive outsider view and if it does do those positive views dip quicker this time out due to over satuation?

4. Can the movement put together a more easily to grasp and definable message that hte general public can consume? If so, it could potentially be a boon for democrats as election season nears. If not, then it could actually potentially produce a drag on them I think.

5. With the election getting closer, does the Tea Party continue its general trend of picking up the pace of its marathon run during such time periods, and if so how do the two movements operating at a similar time co-exist. How doe sthe media coverage differ and relate in regards to the ocverage of both.

Over all it should be another interesting storyline interjected into this election season.

OWS, some of their grievances, some of their de-facto goals, and their violence, is bad for Obama.

:doh
OMG some people involved in the movement that are anti capitalist, that must mean that everyone in the movement is anti capitalist right? Man i wish, but thats not that case. Its called a reductionist fallacy.

The hammer and sickle is world known as the symbol of Communism not socialism.
Its a symbol of the workers and peasants uniting...

Add the hammer and sickle together with a red star and you get the national symbol for the USSR.
120px-Flag_of_the_Soviet_Union_%281923-1955%29.svg.png
Good job Glenn Beck. How long did it take you to figure that one out.

It seems a bit odd that you would use a well known symbol of authoritarian Communism as your signature.
A red star is also a symbol for Communism both used at the same time cannot be mistaken as socialism. Its basic knowledge.
Your on a roll. Add a red flag with a swastika and you get NAZI!
The Red star is a symbol of unity. Five points represent the fist.

Now where does this leave us?
You tell me Glenn...

First you try to tell us that the occupy movement is not Leftist even though everyone can observe for themselves the overwhelming obvious fact that everything done by the occupiers is Leftist.
Sure its majority figured of "leftists". But there are right wing people in the movement as well.

Then you try to deny the basic Leftist symbolism on an official occupy movement propaganda poster.
A fist?

ANd try to deny that a hammer and sickle is Communist symbolism.
Sure commis use it...

Do you really think that people are that stupid?
No but your a little :screwy

I amean yes I know that Leftists think that the American public is stupid but damn Bubba could figure this out drunk.
Man you must of took the red pill didnt you? Your deep in the rabbit hole now...

:doh
OMG some people involved in the movement that are anti capitalist, that must mean that everyone in the movement is anti capitalist right? Man i wish, but thats not that case. Its called a reductionist fallacy.

Who said everyone was?

Oh wonderfull.

Actually, it is spelled wonderful, but yes it would be wonderful.

Ohhhh, how would it be "progress" when the rich are being taxed to death?

I think most of us missed when the rich died off:

"A 2011 study by the CBO found that the top earning 1% of households gained about 275% after federal taxes and income transfers over a period between 1979 and 2007, (although this number has decreased somewhat since 2007 as a result of the Great Recession[17]). From 1992 to 2007 the top 400 earners in the U.S. saw their income increase 392% and their average tax rate reduced by 37%.[18] The share of total income in America going to the lower earning 80% of American households (also after federal taxes and income transfers) has dropped to less than 1/2 in 2007."

Income inequality in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You mean George Soros? The 1%er who funds the Occupy movement?

Reestablishing the regulations we had for a half century that prevented the formation of banks too big to fail and unsecured derivatives that public taxpayers ended up taking the hit for.

How about just no bailouts? :2razz:

If we reregulate the financial institutions, there will be no need for bailouts.

So your commie friends on death row stay alive to give you advice???????

Here are the countries like us that still have capital punishment:

"2011 - As of 30 December 2011 executions have been reported in the following 15 countries during 2011: Afghanistan,[5] Bangladesh, Belarus,[6] China, Egypt [7], Iran, Iraq[8] North Korea, the Palestinian Authority, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan,[9] Taiwan,[10] UAE, USA."

Looks like we are in good company!!!

:lamo Come on! The govt can't afford poop.

They were talking about local government. It must be cold up there!

Then who would be left in the Maine National Guard?

They were talking about them coming back from Afghanistan to Maine.

The demand for lower heating oil prices was for their local government, and without knowing more about what they mean, I would agree it doesn't make much sense on the surface.

None of the national demands are anti-capitalistic. Progressive taxation has been held to be constitutional under the rule of law in this country for at least the last 100 years.

you know what's really ****ing sad?

I agree with many of the grievances of the Occupy Movement. I want the Glass-Steagall Act reinstated. I want more tax-brackets for the wealthy. I want the maximum tax bracket brought back to at least 38%. I want taxes on capital gains adjusted. I want it to be easier for folks to afford to be able to go to public colleges & universities. I want money out of politics.

but I no longer support OWS. and why not? because of their violent, disgraceful, disruptive, and unpatriotic actions during fall 2011. because some of their demands, are insane, greedy, and selfish. because not only do they refuse to come up with a platform, but they take pride in having no concrete platform or goals.

this makes them losers, a waste of the public's time, and one giant political tease.

this nation, needs a revolutionary social-democratic movement, that is NOT AFRAID to have goals that will be rejected by extremists. we need a movement that is willing to work with like-minded politicians.

and OWS? well they seem to be just a bunch of cowards, unwilling to stand up for something detailed & clear....out of fear that they might lose some supporters. they want to remain as vague, generalized, and non-commital as possible.

so **** them.

For a Liberal who's views are too far left for me to agree, you do have decency and honor and I commend you.
