Kony 2012

These guys came to my high school a few years ago, for the next week all I heard was about how we have to get involved in Uganda and help the kids. Then after that I heard nothing, until this new video. Teenagers in general arn't the best backbone for a group and in few weeks something will replace Kony 2012. Also even back then that group seemed to be sketchy but then everyone got on me for not caring about Africa and such, charities can be such a pain sometimes.

Well when I first saw this ****, I knew little about the Kony guy but I actually knew a decent amount about Uganda thanks to National Geographic and PBS. My first thoughts, which were projected throughout the intertubes as well is "Why the **** isn't anyone talking about the government?"

Secondly, I have worked for "non-profits" in Cincinnati; for liberal, conservative, and "Neutral" causes. There is no such thing as non-profit with these kinds of organizations. While they donate to their causes, much of the money that can be made will go to them personally. Several, not all of these organizations feed off of tragedy. To quote something I saw on Reddit:

"If you postin' 'bout Kony I feel bad for you son, he snatched 99 children, and your status saved none."

Yeah. All you have to do to qualify for non-profit status is to make sure there's nothing left over in the end. If income minus expenses equals zero, then hey, you've got no profit and a helluva bunch of tax breaks.

Non-profit does not mean not-greedy.
