For all you liberal socialist types that think Cuba is your Utopia I suggest you watch this. The part that is really telling is the hip hop guy that isn't allowed to sing his songs about racism in Cuba. This is what Communism is, this is where we may be heading with the left wanting to shut up people like Rush. Anything that makes the state look bad is not allowed, is this really what you want? I just happened to watch this and it was very eye opening.

My uncle is sailing the world on a boat and stopped there. He said people came rowing out on inner tube rafts wanting to trade lobster for anything American, he traded an old baseball cap for 5 lobster.

Hahahaha either your uncle is a liar or you are. Lobster in Cuba is quite a delicacy and will set you back about 10-15 bucks(CUC) a plate in both Habana and Santiago de Cuba. So unless he was trading with fishermen who had down syndrome, he wasn't trading 5 lobsters for an old baseball cap.

Since when do liberals think Cuba is a utopia?

I don't know what to tell you except apparently anything American is of great value. If you ever actually go there you may have better perspective and won't be so quick to call people liars. Now on the positve side he said the people there were very friendly and seemed happy but my comment to him was they don't know anything better than what they have so their happiness may be blissful ignorance of anything better in life. So far though no comments on the show I posted, guess no libs really want to be informed on this.

I expect you to call me a liar and really don't care but calling my uncle who is only 5 years older than me a liar rubs me the wrong way. He did 2 tours in Nam plus went back for a special mission and is 10 times the man you are. A little research got me this and I will accept your apology any time on behalf of my uncle.

But the south coast of Cuba is truly remarkable for its abundance of lobster. Whenever we went snorkelling, there seemed to be a lobster or two under every coral head. Sometimes they'd be sitting right out in the open, virtually begging to join us for dinner. And if that sounds too good to be true, everyone we met wanted to give us even more lobster. The Cuban fishermen with whom we shared anchorages seldom asked for payment for their catch; their generosity was part of a culture of mutual "gifting". Usually they offered us seafood as a regalo (gift) and we tried to respond with something appropriate, although there were many times when they insisted that we give them nothing. Most simply wanted to talk and find out more about us and our different world; it was a rare occasion that curious fishermen didn't stop to greet us as they were passing by.

Haha. No. An old baseball cap is as worthless in Cuba as it is in the US.

My wife is Cuban. I go to Cuba 3-4 times a year using my Canadian passport (naturalized citizen). I speak fluent Spanish(self taught mind you in order to get with my wife). Would you like to continue lying? Your link and claims about your uncle do nothing for me. I've been to the country. No fisherman in his right mind is going to trade 5 lobsters for an old baseball cap when lobster runs 10-15 bucks a plate.

Socialized economy, they're not in dire need. I assume in good spirits the cubans had some lobster to share and the fella was like... have a baseball cap, lol.

It's a possibility. However Cuba's economy is socialized in name only. Privately run restaurants and clandestine ones exist all over Cuba. Their food prices are sometimes higher than those in the US when Cubans make in some cases 1/100th of somebody making $1500 a month here. His little "my uncle" story is cute though. 5 lobsters for a baseball cap? Hahahaha. I'm sure these kids wearing Ed Hardy in Cuba are just dyyyyying for a Yankees cap:

Oh wow, I thought they were starving in villages in an animal farm Orwellian state
Cost of living is likely relatively low.

I gave you a quote and a link but apparently you chose to ignore reality, congratulations you have made my punk list, it's the list I have of people not worth trying to have an adult conversation with.

You ignored the article about cruising in the Caribbean that proves fishermen give and or trade lobster with people on boatsall the time on so your calling me a liar is obviously unfounded. One question for you though, are you a naturalized Canadian citizen because you ran up there to avoid the draft? Somehow I think so.

Since this thread is derailed... Do you have a bunker?

Read your own link this the only bit talking about fishermen and their lobster:

Wherever we anchored, local fishermen invariably offered us some of their catch. Photo by David Alleste

How do you get from that:

1. Old American baseball caps are valuable
2. They traded them for worthless things.

on so your calling me a liar is obviously unfounded.

No. It's very founded.

Hahaha I'm a proud child of the 80s (that means I was born in the 80s). I'm a naturalized citizen because I can afford to be. Can your lying uncle do the same?

You may or may not be credible on Cuba, but you've spent the entire thread, thus far, attacking sawyer.

Didn't know calling a liar, a liar is an attack.
