Gingrich Slams Obama for Koran Apology

I just think, as an atheist, while the world would be a better place without religion, not arguing that here, burning someone's holy book is not the way to convert someone to your religious dogma or lack there of in my case, and no one can honestly blame someone for being religious because that is the way they are born. My $.02.

Regardless of the posit that this was an attempt to destroy communications between prisoners, the reaction is important. Seemingly, the Muslim faith has a few that effect the whole when they react. I am hesitant to state (because I feel I am tolerant), but when people try to kill a cartoonist for drawing what he thinks....and kill others because they burned a damn bible (Qu'ran)...they are not worth my compassion.

I see this as tantamount to crazy Christians killing a Doctor because he is affiliated with abortion...they all suck swollen donkey D!ck.

well, for once, i actually agree with Newt.
the President should have backed up the military in their actions.... their actions were not wrong or incorrect.
the President should have explained why the actions were not correct instead of immediately going for the apology.

an apology is tantamount to an admission of guilt.. and i'm sorry, but burning those korans was not wrong...
the prisoners had already defiled those holy books ..this is something the president should have stated clearly and unequivocally.... he instead took the road of apologizing for our boys actions that were not wrong.

The apology was warrented no matter how you look at it. The buring of the Quarn was simply retarded and most people in the military agree with me on that.

Yup, if you don't agree with someone and want to change their beliefs, join DP :2razz:, don't burn a Qu'ran.

I think this should be our new site slogan

you have no way of knowing how many people agree with you...and no, I don't believe it was warranted.
DOD policy ( SOP) is to burn items .. especially paper.. that gets thrown out... and the President just apologized for his troops following SOP.

if we don't want certain items to get burned, then there needs to be SOP that reflects as much... until that happens, then soldiers, by regulation, are going to burn stuff that gets tossed out...even consecrated Korans.

it would be nice to see the Commander in Chief actually stand up for his troops .. other than paying lip service on memorial holidays.

Out of curiousity...if Islamic Soldiers burned a Bible, would you feel better when they apologized?

...snip...

Do you really have any Idea, what this President has accomplished in this clusterf@ck we call a war? Obama did not start this mess, but has had to deal with it, after some silly Chimp in a suit decided it was a good idea. After many years of going between public enemy #1....and he really does not matter, Bush gave up. then our President Killed the bastard, and changed the Game by doing so. We don't need to invade you anymore, we'll just shoot you in the head...Republicans should appreciate this tactic, I know I do.

Let's see, 5000 dead Americans Vs. 14 Dead Crazy F@cks......I think I know my choice

wouldn't care if they did burn a bible... and if it's their SOP to burn stuff when they throw it away, i'd fully and completely understand.

Obama hasn't killed anyone... ever.

I'm not in the habit of taking credit away from the people who deal in death and heaping it on a temp worker sitting in a comfy office 10,000 miles away from the battlefield.

Am I to understand that you do not think the actions taken by out country are not a result of the President, and Government?

Who is responsible then?....Reagan?

Obama did indeed do what your man Bush tried to accomplish, in relatively short order...which killed someone.

To deny the advancements thus far, simply because the President is either black or a democrat places a person in the category of ignorant, or partisan...I leave it to you to decide which.

Karzai doesn't really control the violent people...more so the other way around.

and obama doesn't really control the details of burning the trash at some base in bagram.

karzai, as the elected president of Afghanistan, represents the Afghan people in foreign affairs. As such, he needs to get vocal about not supporting this bull****.

All he's done is ask his people to calm down and then turn around and demand the soldiers who burned the koran be put on trial.

If he, and therefore the people of Afghanistan, are not willing to do so, then I don't think the US should be willing to hand over millions in aid money. Do you?

Who is responsible then?...

DEVGRU, ACE, the activity, the 160th SOAR, the CIA, to name a few. probably other clandestine units the public doesn't even know about.

y'know, the people who actually sacrificed their sweat and blood in tracking down and killing OBL over the past decade.

I suppose my point was that Obama gets blamed by Republicans for everything they can lay at his feet, basically he is President and thus responsible for everything from gas prices to unemployment and debt/ recession. But, those same Republicans deny credit for anything that might be seen as good. I'm sure Seal Team 6 went on that mission on a whim...you know, blowing off steam one weekend.

I also found it petty to call my President a Temp Worker, likely this person decried foul if anyone made a negative comment when our President was Bush, and felt the office was disrespected

This argument is ridiculous....if those helicopters would of crashed and OBL would of gotten away the President would of been seen as ineffectual and it would of been game over. The Presidents job isn't to fly around the world shooting terrorists...it's to make the hard decisions and face the consequences. You know...that whole "leadership" thing Republicans obsess about but wouldn't know it if it bit them on the ass.

Newtie gets more and more irrelevant and pathetic every time he opens his mouth.
Well, it's not just Gingrich -- the political right is singing in unison as they defile Obama for this apology.

Of course, their idea of a good time is using the huge military they created with taxpayer dollars to invade, crush, and kill other countries -- often countries with natural resources that they desire. It seems that if the other country actually fight back, then they are not playing fair . . . . .

I can only say...that were I Commander in Chief and responsible for every member of our military, If there was ANYTHING I could do to lessen the danger they were in.....I would do it without hesitation. While I realize full well that those b!tching about the apology do so for political reasons, I would hope they would do the same as President...because if they did not I would consider them very poor Commanders.

.

Honestly...it works to whip the base into a frenzy (which they were already in) but I'm pretty sure most people think criticizing someone for apologizing is ridiculous.

Obama is the commander in chief. He gets to make the final calls and he deserves credit when he makes the right call. This was something, that if it had gone bad, could've blown up in his face, but he took that chance. It was a gutsy call and he deserves credit for it. Recognizing that fact doesn't in anyway take credit away from the soldiers who carried out the mission. Its not a zero sum game. You can applaud our troops for a job well done and applaud Obama for making the right call despite the political risks.

Bush was a temp worker too...every President is a temp worker.

likey you don't know anything about me

While it is true I know nothing about you, I can assume a few things when you disrespect your own President.

What I fail to understand is why everybody on the left cares so much. Who cares what people in other countries think of us. Let the military do their job. Support the troops.

Yeah, that whole safety of the troops things you don't care about is quite clear. If the U.S. had a "I don't care" attitude about it, you would have seen 10 times more violence IMO.

I don't even care what people in THIS country think of me. Do you think I give a rat's ass what some goat herders in Afghanistan think about our military?

Of course you don't care, you're not the one who is risking their life over there, why should you care

Newt is a certifiable idiot. The main reason for 'apologizing' is to protect our troops in Afghanistan. Thank God Newt will never be President Of The United States.

I am in agreement with you that the reason for apologizing was to protect our troops ..And i agree that someone like newt should never be at the helm ..Has no one learned from the results of GW's administration ?

Many have learned much...some have learned nothing.

We would be respected. Terrorists mess with you when they sense weakness.

That's rather cynical of you sir!

I think the president should back up our troops, that's my point. An apology is selling them out.
