President Obama does not "accept responsibility" for high gas prices, his spokesman indicated today, arguing that Obama has done everything he could to bring down the price of oil and blaming the high gas prices on oil price increases caused by global factors.

"The president accepts the responsibility that he identified the next president should accept, which is the need for comprehensive energy policy," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said today when asked if Obama "accept responsibility" for the high price of oil and gas. "If you're suggesting that there is responsibility for a rise in the price of oil, it's certainly not because of anything he hasn't done to expand oil production," Carney added.

This is an interesting and important turn in the upcoming election. Can Obama, with his moratoriums and pipeline blocking, successfully pull off the "don't blame me" game when few presidents before him could? IMO 5 or 6 dollar a gallon gas could spell the end for his re-election plans, despite the mess the republican filed of contenders is. This is an issue that will weigh heavily on the outcome of the election IMO.

It isn't all his fault but if gas continue's to rise he will be the one blamed come November.

Well, he never get's credit for the good things from the hacks so why should he take their blame for the bad?

Even if you don't like Obama it's clear the president doesn't control gas prices and that includes all presidents republican or democrat.

Remember when Bush and Cheney and Halliburton were making a killing on the gas prices in 2008?

I remember this time there was a nuclear crisis in Iran in 2008 and the president said they were going to nuke us and we were gonna nuke them but they were still a decade from a nuke and all the gas prices shot up 20-30 cents around the country!

Wasn't his fault tho  :lamo

....wait, do you mean 2012? 'Cause that's what is going on right now. And we've taken more aggressive action NOW to warrant the extreme climbs and escalating tensions than we ever did in 2008.

No no... during the Bush admin there was an actual nuclear crisis when Bush said he'd use nuke tipped bunker busters to hit iranian facilities. Then an international political ****storm vs Iran ensued, and gas prices spiked over "the nuclear crisis with Iran" in the News.

:rofl

The "bunker buster" (non-)"crisis" happened in late September, 2008, and oil prices were already dropping precipitously, and had been since July. They continued to drop throughout the fall and reached a 5-year low in December.

What you're probably referring to, and mangling badly, was a brief spike in June on fears of an Israeli attack on Iran:

Oil Prices Take a Nerve-Rattling Jump Past $138 - NYTimes.com

A spike from what was already a record high to a new record high.

Wow, a thread in which Obama doesnt take responsibility for something. Whats next? A thread where Obama blames Bush? Or a thread where Obama takes credit for ending a recession that ended before his policies took effect?

The suspense is killing me.

Not that your article proves any more than 1/3 of what you say in your post. But hey, I'll take your word for it. Been taking ginko biloba?
And doesnt Israel need US assistance to perform a strike on Iran that would even matter?

Whatevs.

The article headline could have just stopped at "Obama doesn't accept responsibility..." nor accountability, but that may be a different threat.

The international OIL MARKET is way to complicated to attribute any rise or fall to one person (exceptions do occur). The steady rise in gas prices has much more to do with with a raise in demand in the rest of the world than Obama's policies preventing the US from sucking the rest of oil out of the ground.

Let me google that for you

Got anything which supports your assertions?

Been taking ginko biloba?

Ah, an "old" joke. Knee-slapper.

No, I just know what I'm talking about.

Ah, move the goalpost.

Whatevs.

Whatevs, indeed.

Trufer alert!!!

how childish.

I wasn't talking about bull**** Truther theories. I was referring to blaiming Bush for not doing enough to stop the threat and deal with terrorism head on.

If we can blaim Obama for gas prices, than we can blaim Bush for ALL of the failures that took place before and on 9-11.

its not a bull**** Truther theory, that Bush failed in many ways to stop terrorism & prevent 9-11. Its a fact. Ask Richard Clarke.
