That does not justify the driver from not stepping in, but I think Peter Grimm is correct that
When I was a kid teachers broke up fights all the time but the liberal lawyers have put a stop to that so here we are.

Thanks TG, however "defense of another" is a time tested premise when the situation calls for it. No jail, if fired the driver has a claim of wrongful termination, if sued he has a defense and his employer would bay for all costs associated. Nevertheless, I was thinking more that the driver should have stopped the bus earlier used a communication device to contact the authorities to have the bullies removed.

FL. STAT. 776.012: Use of Force in Defense of Person
A person is justified in using force, except deadly force, against another when and to the extent that the person reasonably
believes that such conduct is necessary to defend ... another against the other's imminent use of unlawful force.

Here the girl was ganged up on and beaten unconscious.

Something bad happened! It must be the liberals' fault.

It's interesting how supposedly a majority of the country is conservative, yet liberals seem to make all the rules.

    Feel persecuted much?

That's what you're suppose to do when someone's being attacked - either step in and STOP it or CALL the cops immediately - this whole 'keep driving' is stupid but their only reaction from all the many cases we've heard.

You know - if they started and stopped then didn't he check on her - bring her up front - or something at least?
he did stop it once......and then it started again. he then drove to the nearest school and called officals, who presumably called the police. it's not his fault.

It was his fault. There was mayhem on that bus, he lost control of those students, he operated the bus in an unsafe manner. Children were crying out to him that there was a beat down in the bus. He is charged with the safe operation of that vehicle. The bus driver stated that, "he did not know there had been a fight on the bus". The chaos, the yelling and the frenzy that occurred right behind him and that should have been enough for the bus driver to become aware of the situation and take control of his vehicle.

According to Tommy Crosby, the district's executive director of support services, "the driver failed to take attendance, failed to keep control of the bus, and failed to follow a seating chart that requires boys and girls to sit on opposite sides. Bobbie Engelhardt, coordinator of transportation, told the board that she immediately met with Cosenza and they began watching a security video, which revealed an out-of-control bus."

They'd have to call out the National Guard to get me off of the school district.

WHY did the bus driver not pull over and call 911? Why did he or she not do that? Oh, no, no, no. Heads would ****ing roll if that were my child!
My freshman year I was on the bus after school in mid September. It was probably 102 outside and easily 115 on the bus (no AC!!). Somewhere between the stop before mine and my stop the idiots at the back who'd be arguing about the superiority of the Bloods v. the Crips raised their voices loud enough to catch the attention of the bus driver. She stopped the bus and said she wouldn't move or let anybody off until the idiots shut up. They didn't hear or didn't listen so I, being a self-important little twerp, stood up and screamed, "Hey, dip****s. We're all sitting here because of you. Why don't you shut the **** up so we can get moving!"

Well, the idiots didn't seem to like that and one of them started screaming threats at me. The bus driver pulled me to the front by the door, stood between us, and radio the school to report the incident immediately. She then took down the girl's name and stop number (and mine) and filed disciplinary actions against both of us. The girl who made the threats was banned from the bus for a month and received ISS (in school suspension) and a week of detention during lunch. I got a week of detention during lunch.

But the point is, the bus driver got involved. She was quick, efficient, and quelled the issue before it could become something violent. I think we need more of that.

I think we need more of that as well, but more importantly, I think we need more parents who will teach their children not to act like little animals.

Each component of this incident is responsible: the children, the school, the driver and the parents. Each has to shoulder their burden and act more responsibly before something like this happens again.

It wouldn't have escalated as badly as it did IF the bus driver would have taken control of the situation immediately. He didn't.

If that kid was yours, you wouldn't find fault with his actions? Really? I damn sure would.
