Talk about Planet of the Apes!

(AP) – "Seven central Florida teenagers were arrested after authorities said they punched and kicked a 13-year-old until she was unconscious while on a school bus. The victim told authorities that yesterday was her first time riding the bus and no one would let her sit down. About 75 children were riding the bus bound for a middle school in Ocala, a rural city north of Orlando."

Girl Beaten Unconscious Over Bus Seat: Cops - 7 teens charged with battery, disorderly conduct

Hopefully those teenagers serve the maximum sentence.Hopefully with the video there should be enough sufficient evidence that the prosecution does not need to do a plea bargain with any of the accused.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

We can't tell from the video what kind of traffic the driver was in and whether he had to find a safe place to stop. Maybe the chool district needs to provide some "retraining" of all its drivers.

I hope that the participants in this beating spend time in "juvie" and have hundreds of hours of community service assigned to them. I hope their parents are mortified. If my kids had been part of something like this, the least of their problems would've been their criminal charges.

BTW, my kids rode a school bus for just three days in elementary school. On the first day my second grader was beaten up, and on the third, a middle-schooler who was picked up on the way held a drill bit from his shop class to my kid's throat. I went screaming up to the bus barn and talked to the guy in charge, who said all the right things--that an investigation would be launched, and blah, blah, blah.

I drove my kids to their schools every morning and picked them up every afternoon after that, no matter what.

The driver pulled over, stopped and broke up the fight.. but as soon as he/she started driving again.. the beating began again.. Driver stated he knew he couldn't control the situation and so drove to a place of safety and assistance.

Little story about when I was a kid. I was 11 and I was having some bullying troubles on the bus. Nothing I couldnt habdle but I knew that if I was dealing with 5 or 6 kids I would not be winning that sort of problem. So I picked out the guy that I knew was pretty much the ringleader and told him when we get off this bus, Im going to stomp your ass, just you and me...I dont care if I have to walk 20 blocks to get home, you are not going to give me **** all day and get away with it.

So we get into it, hes bigger than me, longer reach and stronger, but hes a clumsy bastard so I got inside on him after taking a few hits and pummeled the hell out of him after I got inside his reach. At this point we are both getting pretty tore up and an adult comes running over and asks who started it. The bigger guy looks at me and points at me and says I did.

I look at the adult and I say damn right I did, this guy and 5 of his buddies were bullying me on the bus, all Im doing is standing up for myself. The guy told the bigger kid to get his ass home and then made sure I was alright. It was the bigger kid's father, who thanked me for teaching his son that a lesson in respect puntuated by a black eye tends to stick better than one punctuated with a period.

No one ever gave me **** after that, because it wasnt worth getting bloodied up over. Which I had shown I was determined to do if I was given crap by anyone. Most of those kids actually became friends later and learned that bullying someone wasnt worth it and pushes people away that could be good friends. Im not saying thats how everyone should deal with it, but if it happened more often bullies would not grow so brazen in their attempts.

A bully will skip lunch to bully you again, if he/she isn't stopped.

The only thing I agree on is the kids and family need help or something. IMO, govt may be part of the solution. The real solution starts at home with the parents.
As someone else said sometimes people will be scum no matter what we do.
Well, yes, I made an attempt to be sarcastic except with the last line. The further away we move from personal responsibility, the worse things will get.
The US is an odd ship. The captain yells out when he sees obtacles , but 535 individual propellers do the steering.

I agree. I believe in personal responsibility. the kids who did the beating need to be held accountable.

This bus driver should not be allowed to transport the elderly to their doctors appointments.

The victim said someone threw a shoe at her and she threw one back, according to an arrest report.

The following took place and the driver was aware; what a numbskull.

One girl allegedly asked students if they wanted to hit the victim, then instructed the teens to form a circle and began hitting and kicking the victim. Several witnesses said they saw the girl fall to the floor and "appear to have a seizure and pass out," according to the arrest report.

No. It's really not. Over reported? Sure. Escalating? Hardly. As a matter of fact school violence(that includes school bus violence) has been in declined for 20 years.
