US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Egyptians: Look to the Constitutions

Re: US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Egyptians: Look to the Constituti

Where is it the job to the justice to find fault in the document she is supposed to be making court room decisions on? What she is doing amounts to saying is our constitution sucks, you don't wanna use it.

I think, considering the fact that it is the job of a Supreme Court justice to know the Constitution, the bodies of law which reside beneath it, and the judicial precedent which precedes their confirmation by the Senate, Ginsberg is highly qualified to find such faults.

Many founding documents for modern governments around the world trace their roots back to our constitution. Pointing to them as better examples is more about pointing to more modern, better-fleshed documents than it is about saying ours sucks.

Seeing how we have an amendment process for amending the constitution our constitution is not dated.

The last such amendment was ratified almost 20 years ago, and it was one that had been percolating about for over 200 years. The last one before that was over 40 years ago.

Not only is our constitution dated, it is this very dating that Thomas Jefferson was concerned about.

The constitution is not supposed to be amended on a whim.Nor should it be amended on a whim.It is the supreme law of the land.

You wouldn't trust a police officer to fully perform his duty if he spoke out against every law.So why would a judge be any different?

Uhhh no. That's not what she's saying. Ginsburg's job is to interpret the Constitution. Not to sell it to other countries. Hence why your McDonald's analogy fails.

1) As a Justice it is her job to critique the Constitution in order to interpret it, and thus can provide valid criticisms of it.

2) You ignore the possibility that perhaps the U.S. Constitution does, indeed, suck.

3) I could easily find groups of law enforcement officers who advocate the repeal the criminalization of drugs, of prostitution, and other laws. And I trust them more than those who don't.

The constitution is not supposed to be amended on a whim.Nor should it be amended on a whim.It is the supreme law of the land.

None of which negate the possibility of it being an outdated document for modern governments.

So first you tell me that the Constitution isn't dated, and then when I clearly demonstrate that it is you tell me that that's how it's supposed to be.

Like I said, Jefferson would disagree.

I find it interesting that, despite it having been mentioned several times, our constitution sets forth a particular type of government (presidential) when there are other systems of government available (parliamentary has been mentioned). Do some not understand that promoting the U.S. constitution is also promoting a system of government (again, for those in Rio Linda, "presidential" in the U.S. case) that may not be well suited for a particular country?

Or is the knee-jerk nationalism so ingrained that anything less that full-throated support of all things American considered treason?

Certain people disagree:

Thomas Jefferson himself was wary of the power of the dead over the living in the form of an unchanging Constitution. To ensure that each generation have a say in the framework of the government, he proposed that the Constitution, and each one following it, expire after 19 or 20 years.

Re: US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Egyptians: Look to the Constituti

The far-righties here want to believe that the U.S. Constitution will work for any country -- no matte what the history, the culture, the population size, the current government, the geography and/or governments of countries on their borders.

Fantastic. We've got a one-size fits all constitution....

But wait! There's more! If you form your new government within the next 24 hours, we'll double your order and send you a second constitution absolutely free! (extra shipping and handling charges apply)

Re: US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Egyptians: Look to the Constituti

edify us as to what you would have done back then? that has to be one of the most moronic comments I have ever seen in more than 6 years on this board

Re: US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Egyptians: Look to the Constituti

The only people who think a constitution is outdated documented are globalist scum and others who hate the constitution and those who want to change the constitution but due to lack of support can not change it. The idea that the constitution is outdated because it was written in the late 1700s is ludicrous. The fact is the constitution can be amended. This means if you want something to be a right you can amend it.If you want to add a restriction to a right then you can amend it.If you want some other changes to government then the constitution can be amended. So that further invalidates the idea that the US constitution is outdated.

Re: US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Egyptians: Look to the Constituti

WELL OF COURSE, any other constitution....anyone at all, but ours would be preferrable. I mean ours was written by rich, white, slave owners.

I mean they were the 1% back in 1787....the bastards!!

Re: Ginsburg doesn't like our constitution

Who can blame her? Our constitution was crafted by an undiverse group of hateful white male christian fundamentalists for hateful white male christian fundamentalists. I'm tired of people acting like the founding fathers were somehow the wisest people who ever lived. They were white supremacists who knew nothing of the merits of diversity, multiculturalism, and government-facilitated social welfare.

Justice Ginsburg to Egyptian TV: You probably don’t want to use our Constitution as a model « Hot Air

just when I had already seen the most idiotic post on the constitution ("we the people" means that the constitution was designed to create equivalent economic outcomes) along comes this gem of hate, psychobabble and complete idiocy of a post. tell me what society had "government-facilitated social welfare back then?

Re: US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Egyptians: Look to the Constituti

And you're the sort of person who thinks that there's only one possible interpretation of the constitution: YOUR interpretation of the constitution.

You have the right to bear arms. You have two, presumably, attached at your shoulders. That right has never been infringed. Or maybe you are interpreting that arms means "weapons?" And not, say, literal arms? Or specifically firearms which most certainly would not include "any weapon," like you claim?

this thread sure has some idiotic attempts to interpret the constitution.

Re: US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Egyptians: Look to the Constituti

So you believe mentally ill people should be allowed to own nukes?

North Korea and Libya apparently did

Coming from someone who uttered this crap it doesn't surprise she would consult foreign law.
Justice Ginsburg: Supreme Court Considers Foreign Laws, Not Just Constitution
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said Friday that as a justice she considers foreign laws – not just U.S. laws and its Constitution - in forming her legal opinions.

That the constitution has methods to amend it inherently supposes within it that it can become an outdated document.

The constitution doesn't become outdated just because its over two hundred years old.The only people who think that it is outdated are globalist scum and those who hate the constitution. The reason it includes a method to amend it is because people may wish to add to it,but it most certainly doesn't make it outdated.

Re: US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Egyptians: Look to the Constituti

Look at the end of his post. See where is says "j/k"? That stands for "just kidding". He was making(and admitedly poor) joke. Let me know if you need any more help with those complicated internet acronyms.

lol... he never gets a joke, never, not even when it's spelled out for him.

It's kind of weird that your entire statement is a ridiculous rant and yet all claims regarding historical facts are true. Did I just enter the ****ing twilight zone?

Ginsburg is an ACLU nutcase who should be thrown off the court. This is exactly the kind of crazy comment that makes the far left seem so nutty.
