Re: US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Egyptians: Look to the Constituti

Our own government ignores the Constitution, and there is no mechanism of power other than open rebellion that lets the People regain control, so what's the point of copying our system? Its flaws are obvious. Not to mention big businesses are "persons" now.

Egypt should not copy the American system. At least Canada has a monarchy that can step in and dissolve the government if it starts to become too autocratic. We have no such protection, other than taking up arms.

Considering how ineffectual our constitution is in these modern times, I think a supreme court justice has a moral imperative to advocate some other type of constitution than our own.
Also, we need to legalize recreational drugs and prostitution.

Yes. A Supreme Court justice should be so intimately familiar with our Constitution as to be able to recognize its weaknesses-- and be able to advise nations newly chartering Constitutions on how to make theirs better.

Loving your country means making it better, not believing it's perfect.

Perhaps some Egyptions might also look more respectfully at a non-american constitution in these times.

A very wise woman and sage advice ...look to the US constitution as well as other constitutions and allow people to have freedoms to exercise. There is nothing wrong with that. As a Supreme Court Justice she is an expert on the US Constitutional and has much to offer those countries which seek to use a constitution as an authoritative document. The US Constitution is not for everyone or every country in fact it was amended to fit the times and circumstance on 27 occasions.

I think that someone whose job it is to make court room decisions based on the constitution should have a really high regard for the constitution. I find it hard to believe that someone who does not have a high regard for our constitution can be fully trusted to do their job. Perhaps this is why she used foreign laws to influence some of her court room decisions. No constitution on earth is perfect and every constitution on earth can be subject to scumbags blatantly misinterpreting it in order to screw people out of their rights.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

What makes our constitution inflectional is due to scumbag politicians subverting the constitution and supreme court judges making rulings based on their political bias.It has nothing to do with the constitution itself. This can happen with any constitution.

Which is ludicrous since effective constitutions must take into account scumbag politicians and supreme court justices making rulings based on their political bias.

What makes you think she doesn't hold our Constitution in high regard? Just because she doesn't think Egypt should use it as an example, thats going to be a tough argument to make.
