    Construction Collapse in Cincinnati

The casino site in Cincinnati at a place known as "Broadway Commons" involved a massive collapse during a concrete pour in this "Horseshoe" Casino. This happened around 8 and all four of the local stations have preempted normal programming to cover this. None of the injuries are mortal and all workers are accounted for. What makes this somewhat "interesting" is the fact that in Cleveland, another casino build using the same "Horseshoe" design suffered a collapse, albeit with no injuries, a while ago.

I drive past that site every day (off today) and it has created a traffic nightmare. witnesses claim the steel frame failed

That's a serious problem. I am glad it wasn't a bridge, because that's what I thought when I read the title.

First question that crossed my mind was if there was a union job project under the the rubble.

Not "Thank God, no one was killed. I'll keep the injured workers in my thoughts." Or something like that?

the preliminary reports are that there was a bad weld or welds causing the steel frame to collapse

it was a "V Collapse" meaning it collapsed in the middle

same company (ie casino developer) had a garage collapse last month in Cleveland. Don't know if it was the equivalent structure

Of course it was. Why let a terrible event like this not be turned into a right wing excuse to bash labor unions?

I would rather see it turn into a conspiracy theory. Looks a lot like nanothermite to me. Couldn’t possible be a bad weld.

Think if its was the same company with two collapses, I would be looking into design and construction pratices.

    Re: Construction Collapse in Cincinnati

IT apparently is a union construction site-Ironworkers Local 44 Business manager was quoted as noting what happened today. Until the investigation is complete its silly blame someone or something. could have been the integrity of the steel, could have been the weight of the concrete, could have been a bad welding job, could have been a case of S happens
