Umm...last I knew how difficult it was to catch a criminal was a non-factor in trying to catch the actual criminal. Also last I knew it was wrong to charge innocent people with a crime....at least normally.

That's a scarily broad definition of terrorism there, quite dangerous in fact.

And what would you call the confiscation of $50 million in hard assets from megaupload that will never be returned, without trial or due process, all because the RIAA and adjacent industries asked the DoJ to do so? That site was a transit hub for tens of millions of people that facilitated peer-to-peer connections. Now it's gone from the web, along with billions of megabytes in data.

Anonymous is exercising civil disobedience, and they have my moral support. Our government is turning fascist day by day, and they don't respond to the will of the people anymore. Tens of millions of people protested SOPA with blackouts and letter writing, and still congress passed the bill; and all we got from the senate was a delay. Just who the **** does our government represent at this point? It certainly isn't the American people. It's the corporate "people".

Corporate personhood needs to be absolished, or at least re-defined so that American citizens are put first and corporate persons are second class. They are not real people and should not have this kind of power over government.

Very hard to do since legally, theives are not a part of the equation [hint: pirates, copyright infringers] - but really, given how companies are able to face the hurdle of piracy, to blame only pirates for this is in of itself ignorant - these companies have means of dealing with the issue of piracy and climbing over the hurdles to come out on top,and doing what you suggest in spire of those possibilities shows an unwillingness to adapt - something only the companies themselves can be blamed for.

    A good thing. The end.

I'd say Civil Disobedience and if a DOS attack is illegal, which I honestly don't know if it is, then I'd say Civil Disobedience that is criminal in nature.

I don't view hacking and a DOS attack on the same level. Hacking is similar to breaking and entering / trespassing. DOS reminds me more of presenting a public obstruction that denies people the ability to easily access an establishment or business.

DDOS is more like firebombing the police stations simply because your favorite crack house has been shut down and demolished.

So you support closing down a service that was designed to help people share files that are legal to share? (IE thier own work or someone elses that says "yes they can distribute it") You support shutting down a service because of actual criminals using that service? How about we start shutting down grocery stores also? I'm sure criminals use them also.

Not even close. Firebombing a station leaves it unable to be used for weeks on end (and possibly killing people)...possibly permenately because there isn't enough money to rebuild the station. A Dos attack can be fixed in less than a day at most and hurts no one.

Re: Anonymous Goes on Megaupload Revenge Spree: DoJ, RIAA, MPAA, and Universal Music

Here is where they made their mistake:
Describing the operation of the site and relations with users the indictment noted, "For much of its operation, the Mega Conspiracy has offered an 'Uploader Rewards' Program, which promised premium subscribers transfers of cash and other financial incentives to upload popular works, including copyrighted works, to computer servers under the Mega Conspiracy's direct control and for the Conspiracy's ultimate financial benefit." Page 2: Justice, FBI Crack Down on Megaupload.com; Hackers Hit Feds, Entertainment Industry - ABC News
The indictment is saying that Megaupload bought and solicited copywrited materials. If that turns out to be the case then they screwed up in a major way.

BTW here is the message if you try to go to Megaupload.com
