I think one of the things that has gone wrong is the idea that vigilante justice and acting like assholes on the internet is a good thing.

Anonymous is just doing what any corporation would do; protecting their assets.

We'll see if it worked though. Our government has the tendency to listen more to money and industry than it does the voices of the people.

But I will happily eat my words if SOPA gets shot down.

So the answer is "Yes, it is like laying in the street and blocking traffic" but you're uncomfortable saying so? Laying in the street is illegal as well ... but it's not criminal.
I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on whats being proposed here, hed agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute. - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

You can get arrested for laying in the streets how is that not criminal?

I think shutting down your sites like Wikipedia, et al. did is the Internet version of 'blocking traffic'.

Apparently a website called Megaupload was taken down by the FBI, it's founder including 4 of the websites members were arrested, and some internet denzines did not take too kindly to it. The hacker Anonymous seems to be taking this one personally.

Anonymous has posted a response to these happenings, and apparently Chris Dodd is squarely in their sites:

    1. SOPA also makes it in the response. Is this civil disobedience or illegal activity?

In theory, I don't support taking down sites that don't belong to you. But in light of the BS that SOPA and PIPA are, I don't really care. Anonymous usually targets people who don't deserve any sympathy, so I can't say too much about this.

Anonymous is a group full of punkass kids who think themselves as internet vigilantes. I've repepated this over and over, they're using the most basic and primitive forms of hacking, DDos. Denial of Distribution of Service. It's the kind that amateur Chinese hackers and the North Korean cyber terror unit use. It's a joke

I draw a somewhat gray line between getting arrested for civil disobedience and getting arrested for say assault & battery. I do not see civil disobedience as being a "criminal act" even though, per the definition of the word it is. That said, it's still illegal.
