These kids should go to JAIL!

That kid was lucky that all of his attackers were ******s.

Nothing in the video indicates that it is a hate crime. The bar for a hate crime is extremely high. Just being racially motivated is not enough. The prosecutor would need to prove that they made plans in advance to go out and select a target based on their race/religion/nationality/gender/sexual orientation and tangible preparations. The only thing that maybe supports a hate crime charge is that they brought a video camera with them. That may count as tangible preparation. But the court would still need to show that they planned it out ahead of time and selected the target because of his race/religion/nationality/gender/sexual orientation. If they just had a camera with them and beat the kid up because they don't like Asians, that's assault of course, but not a hate crime. Really the hate crime laws are intended to allow prosecutors to target organized, violent, hate groups.

None of those kids knew how to fight. It's like I see no anger in their hits, its like they're doing it for the camera only.

Give them the maximum for sure, though. That is unacceptable.

Good thing Illinois is still one of the last bastions for the opposition of citizen's rights and personal defense. It is clear that, due to these restrictions, vicious criminals throughout the state are being cowed into law abiding behavior and cities like Chicago are well on their way to being Utopian metropolises of love and harmony.

You do realize that the person being attacked barely spoke English.... correct? The odds of him being a resident (and by the looks of it an exchange student) far outweigh the odds of him being a citizen who was 'denied' the right to own a gun.

Hate crime legislation aside, just because they're all Asian doesn't mean this can't be racially motivated. There are a lot of countries in Asia, and there is racism between all of them. It's like saying two white people beating each other up can't have racial motivations. Really? What about Britain and Ireland? Happens all the time, or even within Britain itself, people from the North vs. London.

I support guns for self-defense, I'm just not sure it would have done any good in this situation. The only way it would work is if the victim saw them all coming, otherwise he'd have no chance to whip out a gun under those conditions. Also, the gun could be taken from him which could have resulted in his own loss of life.

I didn't watch the video. I find it distasteful that people are spreading it around and watching it so sensationally. Maybe others are more desensitized to violence than I am.

Everyone is aware that the kid being beaten is a gang member and had perpetrated this exact behavior on a member of this group beating him about a week before this attack right? This was a retaliation. This is according to the father of one of the kids in the video. That father is a retired police officer and turned his kid (the one who exposed his face to the camera) in to authorities on the impression that the kid being beaten as well as the rest of the kids in the video be prosecuted too. He didn't take into account that all of these kids are 16 or under except his, who is 17. His child can, and apparently will be, tried as an adult. There's more to this story than the media would have most know. They want to make it a hate crime when in all actuality it was a response to an attack. I'm not saying its right, by either party. Just saying there's more to it. I know a lot of you hate Bill O'Reilly, but his show dug this up. Megyn Kelly investigated the situation and reported this stuff last week.

Most gangs that I know of are seperated by race. Just saying.

Whether this was a beating that took place due to race or not doesn't matter to me. The fact that the kid that got beat up beat someone else up doesn't matter to me...unless there's proof of it of course. What matters to me is that we have clear evidence that this kid was beat up. Those kids need to go to jail for a very long time.

Doesn't matter that gangs are seperated by race. Do we call it gang related or racially related? Most of the time its called gang related. Apparently when a group of minorities attacks another its gang related. When a group of white kids beats down a minority, its racially related and therefore a hate crime. Doesn't make much sense to me. Like I said though, I don't think its right nor do I condone it. I am just letting everyone know this kid isn't some poor victim like he's being painted. My guess, and its only a guess, is that if his little "gang" hadn't intitiated this whole thing, he probably wouldn't have gotten beat down. I don't feel sorry for the guy like a lot of people on here. He got what he deserved. He chose to be a gang member, getting the occasional beat down comes with the territory. It would be like me complaining about going to war. I'm a Marine, kinda comes with the territory. However, I think the kids that beat him should get what they deserve as well as his "gang". All of them should be tried as adults.

Hello? Hello? Is there something wrong with this picture? WTF???

This is why I oppose hate crime legislation completely:

Beating someone to this extent - the punishment shouldn't rely on perceptions of 'racism' and other 'hate crimes.'

It's horrid - regardless of the reason . . . and all punishment regardless of what nature of 'hate' that went along with it should be the same. The actions should be punished no more or less in similar situations. It would be just as heinous if they were completely silent during the beating and didn't say anything - JUST as horrid - not LESS horrid.

Give me a minute. It was commentary on O'Reilly so I may not be able to find the footage. Megyn Kelly is great at investigative stuff so I trust her reporting. Hang on and I'll look.

I can't find it. Pisses me off too. I did find that the Chinese kid is in fact a kid. He is 17 years old. You can find that if you Google chinese man attacked by teenagers. Sorry I can't find a link to back up what I'm saying. I hate when that happens.

It's not always about race, miz hyper-sensitive. Please remove your pc issue spectacles and view reality.

Especially since five of the juveniles charged in the offense are Chinese.

To me it almost looks like a planned initiation disguised as a rival/random attack. But thats second guessing whats right in front of us. Sorta have to judge this one at face value unless new facts come in.

I say this mostly because after a while of beating. (i think just a few moments before he runs) he puts his hands up and says something and all the attackers stop.

I suprised no one threw him against any of those metal bins.

I kept waiting for somebody to Kung Fu somebody. 8 Asian people and not ONE of them knows Karate? NOT ONE? What are the odds?

Your post is almost as bad as asking an Asian American, who was born in America, what part of China he is from. LOL.

Note the irony of calling a natural born American an 'Asian' American. . . .relegated to the race even when it's suppose to be a term of national heritage. He's no more an Asian American than I am a German American.

Would be nice to have these kids caught, show the video to an asian prison gang, and them drop these kids off for an hour or so. Just make sure to tell the prisoners no objects.
