WASHINGTON-- When Michelle Obama worked in Mayor Daley's City Hall in the early 1990s, she was "distressed" by how a small group of "white Irish Catholic" families -- the Daleys, the Hynes and the Madigans -- "locked up" power in Illinois.
And as she prepared to become first lady, Mrs. Obama naively wanted to delay a move into the White House for six months, so her daughters could finish the school year. Her initial thought was to "commute" to the White House from her South Side home.

"...She particularly resented the way power in Illinois was locked up generation after generation by a small group of families, all white Irish Catholic -- the Daleys in Chicago, the Hynes and Madigans statewide."When Jarrett was forced out of City Hall in 1995 -- even though she was close to Daley -- "the Obamas were horrified, their worst suspicions about the world confirmed."

Little Paranoid aren't they? Here's a hint Mrs. Obama, it's same brand of stupid that got you into the White House that keeps these people you are so distressed about IN office (and that goes for the Bush Family as well).

As I said where this was noted in another thread......

she was "distressed" by how a small group of "white Irish Catholic" families -- the Daleys, the Hynes and the Madigans -- "locked up" power in Illinois.

Let's hope she really didn't say this.

Well, Daley has resigned. Looks like Swahili trumps Irish.

Could you imagine the uproar if we had a white first lady whose hubby had say... been in Michigan politics and said something about Detroit politics in a similar manner? ... oh hell we all know that would have been a Presidency ending scandal.

More lies. Isn't anyone sick of these anonymous third-hand reports? I know I certainly am. And so what that she wanted to delay her move to the White House? She didn't. But, naively, she thought she could and that it would be best for her kids. Let's nail the lady to a cross. I'm not a fan, but I'm also not a fan of bull****.

If you've ever lived in or near Chicago, you'd understand the concerns the First Lady had concerning the power and political influence the Daley's, Madigan's and Hynes' had in the Chicago Heights area. I grew up in Gary, IN, right outside the Chicagoland area. Believe me, Chicago politics can be brutal and were from the 60's onward. For example, I remember when the city of Gary tried to expand their municiple airport in an attempt to take on more passenger flights. The Daley's would have none of it! They purposely lobbied the FAA to kill every attempt for Gary Municiple Airport to become more than just as cargo hub when plans are presented would have made it the third largest passenger airline terminal in the area.

Take it from someone who following this issue for five years. Chicago politics as lead by the Daleys in particular can be brutal!!! And that was strong-arming over just one airport project!!! IMO, the First Lady had every reason to be concerned.

Didn't see you up there MaggieD. Perhaps you recall the Chicago/Gary airport battle and can expand on it just to illustrate how perhaps the FLOTUS' concerns were justified at the time.

If she said it, she said nothing different than most people. The Daley Machine is hardly anything new. But where did she say it? That's more my point than anything else. Certainly not here:

...unless reporters never make stuff up. :rofl

Detroit has a large black political establishment.

Considering she (allegedly) used cultural as well as racial identifiers, I'm not really convinced it's comparable. It shouldn't really be an issue either way.

I think its pretty horrible the way the right have gone after Mrs Obama, ok I get you dont like her husband but leave her out of it.

Of course. As noted though if someone else had (if she indeed did) complain using the kind of terms she did about another race there would be a major uproar.

Funny though. We both can recognize the problems with some like Bill Daley but yet, Obama brings him to D.C.

I wonder how many majority white cities are completely ran by african americans.....

What difference does it make?

The point is, had someone complained about too many black people in charge, the Libbos would go freakin' nuts over it.

But, when a black person says it about white people, it's suddenly no biggy.

Does it bother you at all that these quotes are completely unconfirmed? Or does it bug you at all that the author claims to know the inter thinkings of the President and his wife from sometimes over 10 years ago, without interviewing this person on this material? That's like me looking at your post and thinking "I bet his worst fear is a black man becoming President, and its happened, so his worst fears have been realized, I'm going to write a book about this."

I also just got off the phone with a former White House staffer who asked to remain anonymous, and he said Michelle referred to the recent Osama killing as "tragic" and "regrettable." No lie trust me.

seriously?

Well, if Daley must be labeled as "Irish" instead of American, then why should she be any different?

By the way, I guess I'm Dutch-English. We don't wield much power.

Not sure why so many are going after this as though it has no credence, or that we have to have Michelle ma Belle in video saying it. Anonymous sources never stopped the libbos from running stories all over the news, and here. Further, Daley did just resign a year too early, so something is up there. And then the story broke that while Gibbs was still in the loop, he blew up in a meeting, where although Michelle was not present, he falled an f'ing something. Axelrod confirmed as much in an interview over the weekend, and Gibbs apologized today.

Michelle Obama is a two faced arrogant bitch. She's fair game too.

You must be distressingly unfamiliar with Chicago and Illinois politics if you think understand the hold that the Daleys and other "big families" held in Chicago while he was Mayor is "paranoia".

It does make a difference. The Daley's are basically a political machine.

Again, I agree. Which again brings up the question as to why Obama brought him to D.C.
