Video of grief and mass hysteria in North Korea

The news of the North Korea's leader death has put the 24-million population on the verge of insanity, hyped up by unceasing TV broadcast of mass mourning throughout the country. *North Korea's national flag is flying at half-mast today on every flagpole in the country.
This is scary, I wasn't around for Kim Il-Sung's death, but I'm assuming it was pretty much the same. Either they are actually mourning, which would make them brainwashed freaks, or they are fake crying, which proves they are terrified of their government.

I assume it's probably a small minority and they are being exploited by the state-controlled media.
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

Or maybe it is an entire nation that is a victim of the Stockholm Syndrome.

I'm sorry, but I laughed my ass off watching that. As a matter of fact, I'm almost in tears here.

I agree with the OP. Either these people are incredibly brainwashed or they cry out of fear for their government. Either that, or they are being paid to mourn. I noticed they seemed to be wailing and not necessarily crying with tears. Regardless, Kim can't hear their cries in hell

    It's a bit of both.

As far as escapees of the country say, until certain points in their lives they really did believe that Kim Jong Il and Kim Il Sung were some kind of divine beings... the North Korean cult of personality machine is a complete, cradle to grave powerhouse of unrivaled magnitude, it is the most deeply intrenched cult of personality ever devised.

The hysteria is partially out of fear, but more in the way of societal pressure then direct government pressure. If you don't show up to beat the ground a bit and cry, your neighbours will notice and may report you.

I think its mostly brainwashing and a little bit of fear of their government.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

Just shows how extreme nationalist/cult of personality propaganda can make people.
