9 year old boy suspended for sexual harassment saying a teacher was "cute"

I don't understand just what is so wrong in this country where everyone goes overboard when it's not necessary.

But does nothing when it is absolutely necessary.
The unnecessary stuff is easy, and draw kudos. The necessary stuff requires actual hard decisions and work. Too much effort.

did u see my further remarks?

You mean the one where you admitted to not having actually having read the article you accused others of not reading? Those comments?

Harassment is an ill-defined overreach by PC administrators thanks to meddling progressive legislators which, as these stories and so many others amply demonstrate, creates far more problems than it solves.

What problems does it create? Just don't be an ass in the workplace and you won't get in trouble. It's really as simple as that.

I think the Huffington Post reporter was hot. Will I get in trouble for saying that?

Depends. Do you work at the Huffington Post, and/or are you otherwise in contact with her through her employer? And if so, are you saying it after being asked to stop and/or in a way that a reasonable woman would construe as creating a hostile work environment?

There we go. The rules for handling sexual harassment are very specific, and this case, they were not handled properly. Sexual Harassment laws are intended to protect people from out of control or intimidating situations. I don't see how a nine year-old boy could intimidate his adult teacher sexually in any way.

What you're describing is courtesy and professionalism; the lack of neither should be considered a crime. People who act disruptively at a workplace do so at risk of having that employment terminated. Employers who don't react sternly to that kind of behavior in the workplace risk losing good employees who won't work and customers who won't shop in that kind of environment.

One more reason to make sure my children never set foot in one of the accursed public school. Assuming the government survives until I have children.

I somehow doubt that he got in trouble because he called a teacher "cute." Usually, when 6:00 news stories like this sound too outrageous to be true, it's because they are.

Sexual harassment isn't a crime, it's a tort.

Glad we agree.

That may be how the world works in Galt's Gulch, but here in the real world, transitioning from one job to another is not a decision that most people can make as flippantly as buying a different brand of soda because they didn't like the taste of one. The reason laws against sexual harassment exist is because many people are not in the position to casually decide "That's not the best work environment for me, tomorrow I'll quit and find a new job!" Why should the *victim* of sexual harassment have to leave their job? If someone is creating a problem, THEY should be the one to leave their job (or be forced to leave). And if they aren't, then the victim can and should be able to sue the employer for allowing a hostile work environment.

There are lots of phenomenal public schools. To suggest otherwise in naive at best. I'm not suggesting there's anything wrong with private schools mind you.

this happened at a school where i live, Gastonia NC....todays newpaper said that the child told the teacher to her face that she was "fine", in very suggestive tone.....another teacher overheard him tell another student that he thought the teacher was cute....he had also made unappropriate comments to other students in the past and the mother said that she was not told by school officials of her sons beviour....thats it.....kids do a lot worse things at school that dont warrant suspension...ridiculous

Does your newspaper have any quotes from school officials regarding what the kid allegedly did?

I agree. I have already once had an expericence of patiently trying to explain a medical condition and treatment to a reporter and then see it totally turned around in the newspaper story.

Of course the boy is going to tell his mom he just said she was "cute" and omit that he was making a physical gesture at the time. Kind of like Hermie Cain saying he just put his hand on her head to see how tall she was.

I have seen first hand how ridiculous the "zero-tolerance" has gotten. It's gone so far over the top that common sense is thrown out the window. If I didn't have kids in elem school, I too would think there's more to the story.

The school has now apologized to the kid...

What in the flying **** does that have to do with the topic?

Can you quote what you read that I must have missed?

The school officials agree that it was about the boy calling a teacher "cute". Not to her face, but while talking to another student. It was a sub that overheard it and reported it. What kind of sub thinks that's inappropriate?

A jealous sub.

99% of Americas elementary teachers are lunatics or alcoholics. Who would get a bachelors or masters degree to teach elementary kids? Ding Dong school lives on. Then there's the teacher that told a class of seven year olds that there is no Santa and parents stick the gifts under the trees. She should be made to eat live chickens, feathers and all. Remember this country is outlawing recess because it is too violent. My school taxes are due soon and with the drop out rate at all time new highs and teachers of this caliber this is worse than buying lottery tickets that are already scratched off.
