Target employees upset about working on Thanksgiving…

Greed has always been the motivation behind corporations. That was true in 1870, 1880, 1890 and every marker since that time. Nothing except the styles and verbage has changed in that respect.

Not all corporated businesses behave the same way and are driven by the same standards.

In my town we host a few small businesses and all were closed on Thanksgiving - in fact - the only place open was the gas station. That means Sonic, American Market, Dollar General - and in the next town over their grocery store, Knights, was closed. . . and none entertain special holiday hours for any reason.

Anyone who starts a successful business in the United States of America is greedy. Got it.

No. I am talking about the prime motivation behind the big corporations. They care about one thing more than anything else - profit. that was true 150 years ago and it is true today.

If I am wrong, and that is not the prime motivation behind a corporation - please tell me what it is?

Profit isn't always the driving force as is evident by some decisions - some still honor closing on Sundays (for example)

If profit is always the drive then every store would pay menial wages, attempt to sidestep benefits, and would undervalue all their employees if it saved money as well as cheat their customers . . . and so forth.

In many cases, they start out merely wanting to create jobs for the founders/owners. Profit is certainly a prime motive of large corporations. I don't think making a profit equates to greed, however. Example: I don't Steve Jobs and Bill Gates were greedy bastards because they founded Apple Computer...you?

I have no doubt that there is truth in what you say about people who start companies. Once a company gets beyond the small business mentality into the big corporation, all that changes.

Remarkable. Really? A business's number one concern is a profit? Is there a reason you haven't been made a professor of economics yet?

There, you and I part company. I think it's cynical to believe that greed is the motivating factor behind every, or even most, large companies. The desire to grow, to become more profitable, isn't one of the seven deadly sins no matter how much socialists have us believe that. A competitive spirit is a part of our DNA; we couldn't have survived and progressed without it.

Thank god the porn shop is open 24/7 everyday of the year. Just can't imagine having a Christmas day without a trek down to the ole porn shop.

What are you going there every day for other than work? Renting from a shop? . . . I'd rather buy it new online and have it on hand at all times.

and thank heavens - could you imagine?

The huge vast majority of computer users would have Macs instead of only a handful nerds trying to be different.Since there would be more people using Macs the nerds living in their mother's basement would be making a **** load of trojans, virus and spyware for Macs. And Since the vast majority of people would be using Macs instead of a tiny handful of nerds trying to be different almost every computer game and software would be for Macs. A two button mouse would be common in Macs.

We've have one dominate single comp corp rather than two separate competing entities.

Two competing computer companies? Are you kidding? Windows is like Macy's and Macs are like those little run down thrift stores,Linux is like that little stand in the dirtmall(flea market).

Well - regardless - they wouldn't exist.

Do you honestly know what the hell you're talking about with said characterizations? From your previous comment on this thread, the characterizations you draw about Apple, their computers, their users, it sure doesn't.

Case in point: Macintosh computers may still ship with 1 button mice, but anyone who actually uses the O/S, their computers, knows two button mouse support has existed for a long time - those who still think the Macs only use one-button mice are just grasping at ignorance.

Retail workers need a union. Then they could either put a limit on the hours worked or demand extra pay or both.

And find less of them with a job.

Not really. Especially if their competitors also have unions.

Really. You've seen the self check out lanes right? Wal-Mart has already done away with the greeters.
