Target employees upset about working on Thanksgiving…

My family is more important to me than being forced to work blitz hours at a store - quadrouple time wouldn't be enough to sucker me in.

Others don't mind and that's fine - but people shouldn't have to ruin one of their few real holidays just because they have to earn a paycheck. businesses should respect that and not stomp on everyone's toes.

It annoys me slightly that they value customers more than employees . . . even though the slogan is 'the customer is always right' it's just not always true and this is one of those situations where people - if they want to face blitz hours of shopping - should have to do so anyway. If it's inconvenient - then WHY do they do it?

its ok.....after the holidays they all will be layed off because the stores will cut back to a skeleton crew .....they'll have plenty of time to spend with their families

what a bunch of whiners. they should be happy they have a freakin job. I have lost count of the number of holidays I've missed over the last 25+ years because I had to work or was deployed overseas.

Um, okay. So?

Does it really have to be explained? Businesses always cut back when they are forced to pay low skilled workers more money.

Good for you, but you signed up for that and you knew it would happen.

If nobody ever complained about anything, everyone in this country would still be working for 50 cents an hour, 100 hours a week.

I completely reject that claim.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems to be what he's saying...

and if everybody complained about everything then NOTHING would ever get done.

boo ****ing hoo....I had to work on a holiday. only a complete retard would try to compare that with people being forced to work a 100 hour week for a pittance.

I agree with maggie...they should compensate workers.

they do...it's called a paycheck. don't like it? get more than a HS education or learn a skill/trade so you don't have to work retail.

The workers could get that if they had a union.

yeah and then Target would wind up just like the auto makers. broke and begging for a govt bailout.

OMG...I "DESERVE" more than $7.25/hr to put bags of fritos on a shelf.

How dare they only pay me $7.25/hr to say "welcome to walmart"

That's what I think we are headed towards. It was unimaginable only a couple years ago, but it certainly looks more probable now.

How far are we from this:

Ebenezer: I suppose you'll be wanting the whole day tomorrow.
Bob Cratchit: If quite convenient, sir.
Ebenezer: Every Christmas you say the same thing. And every Christmas it's just as inconvenient as the Christmas before. Good night.

Bring on a return to the Dickensian era.

That's the first thing I thought of when I saw the people on this thread! That exact quote, "I suppose you'll be wanting the whole day tomorrow." It's a classic! LOL Thanks for that.

This whole partisan system has created a bunch of Ebenezers.

yeah...that's why they need to unionize. As an individual you're a replacable person with no leverage. As a union you could virtually shut down shop and actually have some leverage.

um, yeah. still not feeling the love for a bunch of under-educated, unskilled crybabies who got upset because they had to go to work at midnight on Thanksgiving. it's not like they had to work all day thanksgiving day.

Thanksgiving last year, I spent most of the day riding in an M1151 escorting a convoy of MREs and Water halfway across southern Iraq.

He makes 40 million a year. He probably flew his helicopter there. You want me to give a **** if he chose to work on a night that he should have been with his family?
I'll count you among those that can't be satisfied under any condition.

Why exactly are you even worried about someone else? Isn't the whole issue between them and their employer? Why does someone unhappy with their working conditions such a big deal in the conservative blogosphere?

No, it would still be Target.

You're such a tough guy. And you military types never ever complain about anything, ever. Right?

No, just the opposite.

I took it as anyone should just be happy to have any job with any wage, with any working condition.

It could be that Representative Don Young's comment - “I’ll call you anything I want to call you when you sit in that chair. You just be quiet” - was still fresh in my memory...LOL...

I could ask you the same question
