Pregnant #OccupySeattle Protester Miscarries After Being Kicked, Pepper Sprayed

I'm cynical, I admit it. :) A homeless, pregnant teenager is at high risk for a miscarriage from the get-go. Inadequate food, no shelter, most likely little or no pre-natal care. Even in the best cases, a significant percentage of first pregnancies end in miscarriage. Now we have a homeless, pregnant teenager attending a protest that has already had police clashes in the past weeks, allows herself to be positioned in the middle of a mob upon which police are fast approaching... incredibly dumb.

Then she miscarries nearly a full week after the incident, and her first thought is, "lawyer". Her second thought is probably that after the lawsuit, she won't be homeless any more.

Yeah, I'm skeptical. If she truly wanted that baby, it's tragic that she lost it. However, in my opinion, if she truly wanted that baby she wouldn't have put herself in that position to begin with.

According to conservatives:

If you are pregnant and you go to a protest, if anything crazy goes down, it's your own fault if you miscarry.

Good to know!

Oh, I totally agree with you. We know nothing. Vance, I view some behaviors as more risky than others. Should a woman be able to walk home alone safely from a single's bar half-loaded at 4 AM? Of course. Is that risky, You bet. Bad choice? You bet. I'm saying this lady made a poor choice, that's all. If a friend of mine did that who was 3 months pregnant, I'd think she'd lost her marbles. I think this lady was an idiot. But do I personally believe a copper kicked her in the stomach a few times? Absolutely not. Do I believe she was intentionally run into by a bicycle/motorcycle? Absolutely not. The only thing I'm most sure of is that she probably got sprayed with pepper spray. Was that a predictable outcome? Probably not. But one could say that anyone participating in these protests puts their lily white on the line in that regard....even if the pepper spray comes from blow-by. Risky behavior.
I agree...bad choice...but for probably a lot of different reasons. It should be apparent that im not fan of the OW movement, but the simple reality is that over the last few months, there havent been THAT many run ins with the police at the events. I suspect there are a significant number that actually believe (and yes...I find them goofy and misguided) in their cause but arent expecting a riot. Some have been caught on film stating they just want to be a part of SOMETHING. Im OK with that...hell...at least they are being honest.

If this happened as it was presented, then tragic. I really hope that people pursue this. Of all the pics and all the videos...THIS is the one I want to see. I want to see signed medical releases so the doctors can describe what caused what. The more I read of the story, the more I think it is bull****. But...benefit of doubt...let the truth out.

According to some who have liberal views.
If you are pregnant and you go to a protest, if anything crazy goes down, it is not your fault, you have no personal responsibilities, do what ever you want.
Good to know.:)

Yeah, I would agree. There are very few instances in which I would say someone deserves to miscarry and that it is their fault.

Well hell...lets just go for the trifecta...what difference does it make. No harm...no foul...all she lost was a foetus...fautus...fetus...a zygote...a non-person. Big deal...a woman that cant take care of herself lost a malignant tissue clump. Maybe the police did her a favor...

Actually, if it was me, I would sue also. It's kind of an obvious response, really.

In the end, while her choices may not have been appropriate, and while there are hundreds of other reasons for a miscarriage, it does tell you a little about the force being used here. It also makes you wonder if all of it is really necessary.

Why was she even there? I would think the safety of her baby would take priority over her politics. She had to know that the chance of a dust up was purdy good.

Sounds like she has the parental skills of a ****ing house cat.

This is prime example of how the occu-tards want to be relieved all their pesonal responsibility.

... and finally the compassionate pro lifers have chimed in with a response..

Now let me get this right, abortion is murder but cops allegedly beating a pregnant woman in the stomach and pepper spraying prior to experiencing a miscarriage is ok, because it's her fault the cops hit her... ok, thanks.

Can YOU help us out with the visual since she at no time states she was on the ground, down on the gorund, got knocked to the ground, and was in fact allegedly up and turning just before she got kicked in the stomach and then pepper sprayed. Im trying to piece it together...its not working out.

I know from the article that she is pregnant and homeless and put herself in a situation which represented a high possibility of damage to her unborn child. Doesn't demonstrate good prenatal care or concern for the future of the child.

Do you have proof she put herself in that position, and that national economy didn't put her in that situation?

As I said elsewhere, pepper spray is no weapon, it's a spice.

Have you ever sprayed a meal down with pepper spray prior to eating it?

I have no idea. I also didn't say that it caused the miscarriage. Didn't help though.

From my first post it could look that way, but if you really look at it, I never said I believed it. I just said it's all fun and games until someone miscarries and then the lawsuits begin - which is true. The fact is, if I was doing what apdst was doing, I'd say something like this:

"Those scumbag riot police ...". But I'm not a hack and I know that there is nothing but a ton of doubt in this case. Also, I am not pro-life - the type of person that would call someone who got raped a murderer if she aborted or chastise anyone about the importance of a fetus. But yet, here will come the conservative base, showing their true colors and not giving one **** about this lady because:

1) She's poor
2) She was at an OWS protest

The hypocrisy in this entire thing is so glaring it's funny that you don't see it.

Let's be honest, if the woman and her unborn baby were at a Tea Party rally instead, X Factor and the rest of the pro lifers would have placed more value on the loss of the unborn baby's life. Since it was in the womb of a woman at a liberal leaning protest, the baby's life isn't of much value to them nor are the concerned with her loss.

So when liberals run out of intelligent discourse they resort to the old, "Bad, BAD! conservative!!! Ridiculous. You don't know that. You just wanted to exercise your fingers.

What other explanation do you have for a group of "pro-lifers" blaming a woman for a miscarriage. It's funny to watch, I admit it, but painful at the same time.

I honestly do find their attitude towards this woman and their comments towards her miscarriage disgusting on many levels, and I can only come up with two reasons for their behavior and comments... 1. She was a liberal, and 2. they are total hacks.

Your comment proves some points. Some see the woman as having no personal responsibilty in what happened and its all someone elses fault.
For some of my comments, I had no knowledge she was a liberal. Are you are saying all protesters at the protest event are liberals?

Guess we should only speak our views if it agrees with you. Guess it is one way to not be a hack.

That said, I feel sorry for the woman. Hope she received the medical attention she needed.

Just a question, why is this anyone's fault?

That's what I'd like to know, especially since not one of us has the full story.

Hell stuff like this can happen, even if various groups are acting nominally without any intent or neglect on anyone's part.

I think I'm alone when I find this EXTREMELY SAD.

Teen
Pregnant
Homeless
Miscarriage

Wow - and I read a few comments in this thread about it being a blessing in disguise . . . that reminded me of when I was pregnant at age 18 and miscarried - that's what my Mom said. . . made me sick to my stomach that she was able to find a positive thing at all about something so tragic.

She was pregnant and went to a protest. I have seen pregnant women at protests before. I have seen children at rallies with their parents, especially those pro life march on DC rallies. This women went to an OWS protest and didn't expect the police to beat her and pepper spray her, god forbid a pregnant woman going to any political event with that attitude...

And neither do you, but somehow you know anything she says must just be the gospel truth? Certainly no motive for lying here. LOL

It's funny, the lady was supposedly 3 months pregnant and homeless but the miscarriage is caused by the pepper spray?

ROFL, that's too funny, pepper spray causing miscarriage.
It would be like saying getting hit by a sheet of paper causes death by loss of blood
