The way this was handled is unprecedented for a conservative state like PA.

While punishing sex abusing scumbags who are prominent individuals in a community is old news for modern liberal states, in a Fundamentalist Xtian stronghold, it's a new thing. These conservative Xtian folks are not comfortable talking about these issues Their discomfort w/such things likely helped contribute to the silence for so long.

It's good that these people are slowly evolving.

Maybe. Maybe not. I'd wait for a lot more facts to emerge before reaching conclusions such as this.

I've heard reports that an additional 10 victims have been identified beyond the original 8

OK, now McQueary is saying he DID talk to the police.

In the email obtained by The Morning Call, McQueary wrote that he "did have discussions with police and with the official at the university in charge of police" following the alleged incident involving Sandusky, a former Penn State assistant coach, and a boy.

So either McQueary is a liar, or all the bashing of Paterno for "not doing enough" is bull**** because, if McQueary is being honest, there was no need for Paterno to report the incident to the cops since McQueary had already done so.

He may be a liar, I can't say. But what he did has nothing to do with what paterno did or didn't do. The man worked for Paterno, continued to have access to the college, and paterno, as best we know, did little follow up. paterno himself said he didn't do enough. I respect Paterno's accomplishments. he was a great coach, and his emphasis on education was significant. But this did happen on his watch, and by his own admission, he could have done more.

you can always "do more" point being, many people here have been bashing Paterno because he didn't call the cops. If McQueary is being honest, then that criticism of Paterno is invalid.

I don't know if it's bashing, but I certainly would have called the cops. And I'd have dragged Snadusky out of the building by the hiar nad thrown him on the street until the police arrived.

But that si neither here nor there. The fact is there are laws, and if they broike laws, they will likely be charged eventually. And there is opinion, which follows few rules, and all concerned will be unable to change the perception, right or wrong.

even though, according to McQueary, the cops had already been called? what good would it have done to have called them again?

hard for Paterno to do since he wasn't there

but, as you said, neither here not there. I am just curious to see if anyone who was calling for Paterno's head for not calling the cops will apologize now that it appears that the cops had already been called.

Not for McQuery, whihc is who I was refering to.

However, Paterno was this fellow's boss. Would you let Sandusky stay employed? Have contnued access?
