You're telling me Mike McQueary has more status and more clout and more respect in that community for the cops to actually seriously look into something that could shake the very foundations of the thing that community is based on....Penn State Football...than Joe Paterno?

Sure, there should be less criticism on Paterno if he KNEW that McQueary told the cops...and we don't even know for sure IF McQueary told the cops at this point, let alone if Paterno knew he did.

Also, you're correct. People saying he should've fired him are off base because he wasn't employed at that time. However, Paterno absolutely could've barred him from using the locker room and the weight room and interacting with the football team in any kind of capacity.

For what its worth, go look at the general age of many head coaches in big time college football and the pro's. The 40 to 60 year range is generally most common.

Not that I don't agree that its hard to really say that Paterno "knew" what he was after the initial 1998 allegations and all the things that happened. That's nothing but conjecture and one that can't really be determined without very anecdotal evidence...such as a guy who was a shoe in to take over for Joe Pa not having any offers for head coaching positions reported as coming his way...so making the claim as if its a certainty is a bit off base.

However, his age was hardly "old" in the realm of head coaches.

    Read the indictment.

The indictment states (which is under oath) that McQueary never talked to the police.

The graduate student was never questioned by University Police and no other entity conducted an investigation until in Grand Jury if December 2010.

Does this absolutely rule out that he didn't talk to the actual police? No it doesn't but I refuse to believe that there is no record of it if he did and that they simply ignored him when he said he saw Sandusky raping a kid.

That does rather beggar belief, doesn't it?

I'm telling you it doesn't matter. if it was reported, they have to investigate. if it was reported, continuing to claim that Paterno should have double tapped it just shows that the claimant has an axe to grind against paterno

However, Paterno absolutely could've barred him from using the locker room and the weight room and interacting with the football team in any kind of capacity.
agreed, the guy was retired, he had no business hanging around anyway. if he still wanted to be involved, he shouldn't have retired.

I'll grant that there could be more options but right now it seems one of two. Paterno told them that one of his assistants was buggering little boys and they did nothing, or, he didn't actually tell them.

I suppose it's possible that the entire police force is involved in the cover up but that would be stretching things pretty far right now IMO.

Re: Paterno getting the boot at PennState

A central Pennsylvania police chief says his department did not receive a report from then-Penn State graduate assistant Mike McQueary related to an allegation of child sexual abuse against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky.

McQueary, now the Penn State wide receivers coach who was placed on administrative leave Friday, had told a friend in an email that in 2002 he stopped the alleged rape of a boy he thought to be about 10 years old and discussed the matter with police.

But State College police chief Tom King said Wednesday McQueary didn't make a report to his department.

"He didn't come to State College police. The crime happened on campus and we don't have jurisdiction on campus," King said. "We've had no reports (of Sandusky sexually abusing someone) from anybody."

The university also has its own police force, and said they have no record of any police report filed by McQueary

I hope that the only reason McQueary has volunteered his heroic defense is because his attorney agreed.

Speaking of this fiasco. Did anyone hear about Sandusky's interview with Bob Costas? What the hell was Sandusky thinking, going into detail like that?
