In an interview on PBS's Newshour with Judy Woodruff, GOP Presidential candidate and former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain was asked whether he views China as a potential military threat to the United States. His response was... surprising to say the least.
JUDY WOODRUFF: Do you view China as a potential military threat to the United States? HERMAN CAIN: I do view China as a potential military threat to the United States... we already have superiority in terms of our military capability, and I plan to get away from making cutting our defense a priority and make investing in our military capability a priority, going back to my statement: peace through strength and clarity. So yes they're a military threat. They've indicated that they're trying to develop nuclear capability and they want to develop more aircraft carriers like we have. So yes, we have to consider them a military threat.

Herman Cain is apparently unaware that China conducted its first test of a nuclear device on October 16th... 1964.

Have no fear he will come up with a reason or just write it off as a misunderstanding, Herman Cain is a nice guy but he is not a person who could be president.

I agree with that assessment

Foreign policy isn't really his strong suit.

If he were a serious Presidential candidate, you'd think he'd actually research the things he's supposed to talk about before he talks about them. I have no idea what's going on in that campaign war room, but it's not looking pretty.

He is a freaking minstrel. An entertainer who is only interested in selling his book, charging for speaking fee's and his future job at fox. The funny thing is, there are people on the right who actually believe this Motivational speaker is a serious contender for the republican nomination. They are defending this clown.

Damn that side has NOTHING.

See me sig line.

Not being his strong suit is an understatement..hes clueless....In all sincerity I thinks its pathetic that republicans are sticking with this guy knowing he should never be president of the USA because they think hes going to give them tax cuts or something...
This guy isnt ready for congressman...let alone president.....out of the entire GOP field Gingrich is the smartest and the best for the job...but of course hes not far right nuts enough for this new GOP of I WANNA TAX CUT NOW crew

It's amusing watching them rally behind someone who foreign policy ignorant because they dislike the rest of their candidates and Obama so much.

Foreign policy chops used to be absolutely vital after the Bush Jr years. Cain has no idea what's going on outside of the US. His statement on Palestinian right of return was insanely ignorant. I bet Benny shat in his pants after hearing a leading GOP candidate say that the Palestinians should be allowed back to their houses in Israel Proper. And he cannot name key countries around Afghanistan.

I guess because Obama's foreign policy right now is largely unassailable they swing to the exact opposite, someone so ignorant that foreign policy is irrelevant to him.

"Herman Cain unaware of ________________________________ ." Wow we could have a contest completing this statement with so many good answers to chose from.

The really tough question, as it would take much thought and research, would be "Herman Cain has great command of the ______________ issue"

.......Cain has no idea what's going on outside of the US.......

I am not so sure Cain has any idea what's going on inside his head. From his interview on abortion where in a few minutes he confused everyone in the room with exactly how he stood, to 9-9-9 (was it apples or oranges?), to "does he or doesn't he" come on to his secretary (all possibilities suggested just one day), this guy is the epitome of confusion.

I first discovered Cain was an idiot when he was being interviewed and was called on his often made claim that Obama's regulations were stifling innovation in this country. When confronted with the question to name just one regulation that was stifling innovation, he hemmed and hawed and finally said he would have to do some research, but he would get back with an answer.

It was very Palin-esqe! LOL!

"Develop" could be taken to mean "improve", which could be from a position of already having nuclear. The guy's a clueless opportunist (oxymoron I know), I think he can fudge on this one, the 999 to 909 episode was somewhat more amusing to watch.

:lamo

Thread is shockingly devoid of conservatives. Can you IMAGINE what they would say if this had come out of Obama's mouth?

Did you read what he said about china and nukes? Oh dear god this guy is LEADING on the right. LEADING! Damn.

Cain has peaked, Perry has flopped, the spotlight will turn to Romney now as the front runner. He has the money and the GOP establishment behind him.

My question is - How come Woodruff didn't correct him? Did or didn't she know that China has had nukes for almost 50 years? Was she paying attention to his answers? Was she distracted?

Or was it plain ol' 'LIBRUHL MEDIA' bias and she decided to let it slide? ;)

Running for President is no picnic.

It's a 24/7 cycle of **** where every single thing you say, can be turned into a sound bite and repeated 10 billion times ad nasuaum.

In this case, I imagine Cain mixed up North Korea and China in that moment.

And many in here are quite right, if it had been Obama many conservatives would have a field day.

But at the end of the day, there's better reasons to oppose Cain then this and the alleged allegations.

Something far more important and a gaping hole that in a General Election he could never actually defend.

His 9-9-9 plan sucks balls.

I dunno, when these things happen it's my perception that it's proper form to just let these things slide. For instance, in the Presidential VP debates in 2008, Sarah Palin couldn't get General McKiernan's name right (obviously she had been coached but couldn't remember how to pronounce it). If I were Biden I would've pounced on it, but he let it go. Same thing when both McCain and Obama mistakenly referred to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards as the "Republican Guard" (confusing them with the Iraqi Republican Guard). The moderators could've called them out for it, but didn't. These things happen all the time, usually the other people in the room just let it go.

exactly he just isnt

exactly he just isnt

He isn't, but he is "running seriously," if you get what I mean. What I can't believe is that every election you have folks out there seriously running for President (running a legitimate campaign, fundraising) but clearly don't know what the hell they're talking about.

Herman Cain's credibility allegedly stems from his business experience, but he comes up with a tax plan that is so full of crap that folks on both sides are bashing it, and the only defense he can come up with is "you're wrong" or "check my website." I don't get why people do this.

And then you also have his lack of foreign policy knowledge (let's give him a pass on the China nuke thing and assume it was a gaffe, you still have other examples of his foreign policy ignorance), clearly issues that he has not researched carefully, but yet he and his supporters somehow think that he belongs in the White House.

Shouldn't the media just report what the candidate said? Seems to me to be more unbiased to just let them hang themselves.

well I havent paid much attention but his supports SEEM to be made up of people that would support anybody right and or people on the right that dont really care about actual politics just talking points and rhetoric etc.

I was willing to take bets months ago and still am with anybody that think he will be president. He is a shock Jock and nothing more.

But yes it is said he has the support he does.

I did make a bet with a member here months ago who was convinced Cain would win. They have since fled the forum.
