Occupy Oakland Attacked By Tear Gas, Rubber Bullets, and Flash Grenades

Which right allows OWS protesters to occupy a common area indefinitely, preventing other citizens from using it?
They aren't preventing anyone from using the park. All are welcome.

protesting without a permit.
Personally, I don't see why that is necessary. I actually think this is what the FF were trying to block, government being able to "control" protests. AKA, permits.

It's humorous that they try to bring back the 1960s counterculture so much they are singing "we shall overcome" (which had already lost much of its meaning by the time the hippies grabbed it).

People in this country have a right to peaceably assemble, which they did.

Yes, the police "attacked" a bunch of peaceful, law abiding folks that were doing nothing wrong.

This is terrible!

Why'd they use rubber bullets? Lead ones work much better!

We didn't sing that song Fid. We sang Give peace a Chance.

I do recall The Fish Cheer. I suppose that would count.

Around here, the Dallas PD still plays touch football against the Ft. Worth PD in their annual Pig Bowl.

Seriously.

Ummm, Fiddy, "We shall overcome" was the anthem of the civil rights movement in the early 1960s - it was before hippies existed.

That and "I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die Rag", and "War"

Hence why I said it lost its meaning by the time the hippies grabbed it. It's even further removed now.

I think you just did. Fun, huh?

Actually, I think what your doing is going beyond a simple political debate and is starting to get personal. And I think the same can be said about me.

I suggest we both take a step back, take a deep breather, and then come back to this later. Fair?

Finn, you're taking this much too personally. There are times when I do need to "take a breath" on this forum...but this sure isn't one of them. Lighten up, my friend.

Hey, I'm OK. Remember, its hard to tell sometimes when people are being serious or not on this forum because of its very nature.

In any case, I think I need to take a break from this forum myself.

With a name like Finn MacCool??!! DP is whatever you make of it...a place for some interesting fun is how I approach it. Sometimes it's more "interesting" than others. ;)

They were told to move or they might get hurt. Someone got hurt. Why didn't he move like he was told?

I think the point he was making is that this was no "dirty hippie", as FOX News, along with assholes of their ilk, likes to describe the protesters. He is a soldier, who served 2 tours in Iraq.

So you are A-OK with the police flash grenading medics trying to remove an injured man? To me, this proves the police showed wanton disregard for public safety.

The police stopping media outlets from filming shows the police knew the facts were not going to support their contention that they were attacked first and took reasonable action. It also indicates that the police knew this was likely going to result in serious injuries or death and proceeded anyway.

In other countries, they had larger protests without all the police beatings. Our police, particularly at assemble and protest events, MUST be controlled to proper levels to ensure the rights of others are not violated by the thuggery of State.

Let's start with the creators and editors of the Occupy Wall Street Journal. Surely you would agree that the people feeding information and opinion to the protesters in the form of the official newspaper are leaders, right?

Finn?......

Fox News called him a "dirty hippie"?
