A screaming comes across the sky.
It has happened before, but there is nothing to compare it to now.Pynchon - Gravity's Rainbow
yeh it was! Sometimes in the heat of the moment you do things you would not normally do, anyone who has been in combat can tell you that (myself included). Like I said these guys probably went through hell to find this coward and this was the same coward who had been sodomizing a whole nation for years.
What if he was sodomized, then tortured, then his fingers pulled apart, sodomized again, and then murdered?
Is it still justified?
Don't let your sense of patriotism blind you from wicked vengeance.
on the contary I think its you who has to open your eyes. Your judging these men based on your own convinctions and on the western worlds justice system. This is a different part of the world and they deal with stuff differently from what we would. Saying that though my own country the UK and also the US have done stuff in the last 100 years that would be seen as barbaric by many but it got the Job done, look at the RAF bombing of dresden.
This video scared the public because they are not supposed to see this kind of thing, as far as they are concerned soldiers go and fight for them and are always true and just and everyone plays by the rules. Thats why when pictures of soldiers humilating and torturing POW'S or videos like this come out it scares people because they are used to seeing war though the eyes of the main stream media. War is brutal and gaddafi came to a brutal end.
What was done to Gaddafi, his son, the 53 other prisoners of war and countless others was disgusting and against International Law...but yes, we have seen too many of these actions in recent years and it seems acceptance is too easy. These are people we expect to act in a democratic way? But what I find more alarming is the glee and support such actions seem to arouse from people in the West. I fear the last years have removed from us, like Gaddafi asked his killers as he died the ability to know the difference between right and wrong. Also from what I heard the Western Governments are probably extremely pleased he did not stand trial as they would have been embarrassed by what was disclosed.
Anyway none of this is personal to you. I read some of this thread a time ago and just came back and found your post. I usually find myself in agreement with you but possibly not this time.

George Monboit "Neoliberalism is inherently incompatible with democracy, as people will always rebel against the austerity and fiscal tyranny it prescribes. Something has to give, and it must be the people. This is the true road to serfdom: disinventing democracy on behalf of the elite."
