The teaparty has had no impact in changing americans beliefs...the numbers remain the same.

he bad economy, a change in presidents, bailouts, health care, the Tea Party and now another presidential cycle, you name it. Still, the basic fiscal and social ideologies of U.S. voters remain largely unchanged.

How many say they are liberal on both fiscal and social issues?

Heck, they even refuse to call themselves a liberal at all. It's "progressive".

Why would anyone choose to be liberal with money? It's only a recipe for bankruptcy.

This doesn't surprise me at all. True Conservatives (Social AND Fiscal) have always been something of a smaller group in this country. Especially since our point of view is not seen as being very "modern", "Progressive", "enlightened", or "nice". It's only those of us who actually BELIEVE in these things who will willingly describe ourselves in that way.

May I ask, what do you consider being liberal with money?

Spending, spending, spending....borrowing...borrowing....borrowing...credit...credit...credit.... Example: Our own government.

Being conservative with money is creating a budget and staying in that budget.

Because debt, within reason, is good to have. Having the ability to go into debt, is good.

I agree that debt is necessary at times. I do not agree that it's good to always have debt.

It all depends upon what your spending money on. Spending $1 trillion on a war in Iraq is money waisted. Money spent on the infrastructure - road, bridges, schools, etc. is an investment in our country...

That is being irresponsible with money, not liberal.

EDIT: Responsibly going into debt, is just that.

So if you're fiscally liberal, .....?

It's not. Neither is it a tenet of liberalism to consistently run deficits for long periods of time.

I don't find this poll surprising at all. I would bet money that it's the "social" aspect that is the biggest detractor. I consider myself to be conservative, but only with regards to some policies. I 100% support gay marriage, I support special-case abortions, and other policies just bother me. I'm also for deregulation and government serving the people instead of dominating them. All together, I would have to say no to this survey. However, I will still make sure my vote against President Obama is counted next year.

So if you're fiscally liberal, .....?

You spend on programs liberals favor, like infrastructure, education, social programs and the like.

So overspending....like I said. :)

Most people agree that money should be spent on infrastructure, education, and social programs. They might not agree on the scope, but most people agree that government should have a role in such things. I don't know where you're getting the belief that spending money on these three things is necessarily overspending.

The 'liberal' part financially invariably involves SOMEONE ELSES money.

Surely this cant shock you? It is why the democrats attack on the Tea Party is so mindless and stupid...ooops...I mean corrupt and contrived. The Tea Party...that 27%...they arent going after democrats...they are going after republicans. The Tea Party scares big spending GOP members more than it should scare democrats.

Can't read the poll as it's behind login.

If it's like the rest of these polls it's worthless as people can define the ideology as anything they want. Considering how many of the "conservatives here" have literally no idea what that ideology means, I have a hard time believing that the rest of the country does.
