Reid signals government jobs must take priority over private-sector jobs

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Wednesday indicated Congress needs to worry about government jobs more than private-sector jobs, and that this is why Senate Democrats are pushing a bill aimed at shoring up teachers and first-responders.
"It's very clear that private-sector jobs have been doing just fine; it's the public-sector jobs where we've lost huge numbers, and that's what this legislation is all about," Reid said on the Senate floor.

"The Republican response has been cutting back environmental health safeguards, I guess hoping that a sicker, more polluted country is a better place to create jobs, and it's not," Reid said.

Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

Re: Reid signals government jobs must take priority over private-sector jobs

I am sick of the spin from both sides. "Spokesman Adam Jentleson said. "Republicans are blocking all of these proposals to create jobs in the private sector because they care more about defeating President Obama than putting Americans back to work.".

This is just stupid. It could be easly be turned around and state that the Democrats and the President are blocking proposals to create jobs in the private sector because they care more being reelected than putting America back to work.

A long term fix is needed for the economy which can support the needed first responders and teachers.

No one party has all of the correct ideas to help unemployment and the economy. This bs jabs back and forth does nothing to help.

So according to Reid, ""My friend, the Republican leader … is complaining about a tax of one-half of 1 percent … on people who make more than $1 million a year to pay for a program that would stop teachers from being laid off and rehire some of the teachers that have been laid off,".

1/2 of 1 percent for this program, how much more does Reid want from the "rich" for other programs. Where is the talk in improving govt. efficiencies, cut of wasteful spending, and reducing the deficiet. All I hear from Reid is lets spend.

Yes. "We need less police, firefighters, and teachers" is definitely going to win the GOP this election.

He's right. Those jobs have been hit hard by cutbacks lately. Camden, NJ cut half of its police force. ****ing Camden.

It's easy to lump every public employee into "government jobs," and it helps you to do so because that makes people picture random useless bureaucrats instead of the FDNY.

They announced a plan to review government regulations and remove those most hindering to business and Republicans still got mad.
