They didn't vote for Obama because they didn't agree with his views, but if they like Cain's views, they will vote for him. It's fashionable in some progressive circles to play the race-card, but I don't think people much care about it.
My brother in law and sister know him socially somewhat. Both think he is an awesome, brilliant guy who has not chance to be president, nor should he be president. Both my sister and brother in law are very conservative, so the issue is not that he is conservative, but that they don't think he has the qualifications.

Just going to play this card now. But if some one with the qualifications of Obama can do it, then anyone can.

That's exactly what my first thought was.

That's really interesting to learn. What are their specific concerns? His lack of foreign policy knowledge?

My brother in law put it(paraphrasing) that being a great business leader does not mean you would be good as a government leader, and in fact the opposite is probable. It's one of the few things politically we agree on. He mentioned the example of imagining a CEO having to work with a congress to get anything done.

He will get his ~10 % consistently, without it going up or down much. The rest don't have enough support to matter much except Romney, and I am not sure who Romney supporters would switch to.
I think your pretty much right on the mark...with your assessment...

He could just threaten to do things without them.

Well it is a bad one, best not to repeat it.
